JANUARY 2006

I'm married to my best friend. I'm a mommy of two wonderful girls...Brittany 7, Emma 2 1/2. I've struggled with obesity my entire life and have tried every diet plan/program imaginable. I currenty suffer from hypertension, fibromyalgia, edema in both legs and feet, degenerative joint disease in both knees, back problems, breathing problems, irritable bowel syndrome, and severe GERD. I truly feel blessed to have discovered Livlite and Dr. Marshall. I'm currently having a big struggle with insurance, but am hopeful to get that worked out soon by taking on a secondary insurance. Paying for the surgery is not an option for me at this point financially. My goal is to be able to run and play with my daughters. We have a date in mind for our first trip as a family to Disney World in April of 2008 and I'm going to look forward to riding all the rides with my girls!

2/22/06: Currently my husband is waiting for his job review on Monday 2/27. Please pray for probation to be lifted. We cannot sign up for BCBS without probation being lifted. We thought his probation would be up last month as he is told all the time what a great job he does, but we had been warned by other employees not to expect it. The boss is on a power trip and extends probation periods just because she can quite often. UGHHHHH! My hope is probation will be lifted, papers turned in to BCBS right away. Maybe our policy can go into effect 3/1?? I could possibly still have a March surgery date. Please Lord!!! Going to support group at Livlite tonight. Such great people and so inspiring. I need to be motivated and encouraged again. Last month I silently cried through half the meeting. I guess that is ok though too. My hubby gets to go with me tonight, yeah! This is the first time he has been able to go. I want him to feel comfortable and informed on what my(our) furture holds. My hubby and my parents are my rock and support. I thank God for my family!

3/18/06: I am approved! The big day is Thursday 3/23/06. Lot's of emotions running wild right now. Mostly excitment, but some reservation. Where my reservation comes in is thinking about my kids. I feel safe and confident with my surgeon and afterall the Lord will guide his hands, but you can't help from thinking the what ifs. Prayers this upcoming week are greatly appreciated!

3/22/06: Received a call from Dr. Marshall's office yesterday and they have to move my surgery from 3/23 to 3/28. The Dr. had to go out of town. After the initial dissapointment, I'm keeping my head up. It's only a few more days later.

4/4/06: I'm one week post op now. Surgery was on 3/28 at about 430pm. Dr. said it was a text book surgery. I came home from the hospital after three days. Probably would have been released after 2, but had a day set back on fluid intake due to about 12 episodes of loose bowels....not fun but I made it! Everything else is going good. I'm walking, doing stairs, starting to be able to do more with the kids every day. I have my one week post-op visit tomorrow with the Dr.

4/21/06: I'm now just over 3 weeks post op and have lost 25 pounds. I'm very happy with my weight loss. I'm experiencing a bit of trouble getting food down right now. Dr. performed an EGD yesterday to look for a stricture. No stricture, but he did see a spot that has not healed yet from surgery and put me on prevacid and one other med to help heal it. It may take a few months to heal, but should be fine.

6/28/06: A long overdue update! Today is my 3 month anniversary from having surgery. I'm down 68 pounds, several inches, and 2-3 clothes sizes! Yipee!! Feeling better everyday and looking forward to a weeks vacation with my family. We leave on 7/1 to go to Kentucky for a week.

7/18/06: I'm down a total of 75 pounds now, yipee! I'm also down 3 clothes sizes and it feels so good. I can now buy clothes at more than 2 stores! I will have another EGD this Thursday to make sure the ulcer spot that the Dr. found in April is healed.

9/18/06: Sorry it's been so long since my last update. I'll be 6 months post op as of 9/28/06. I'm down 103 pounds, yipee!! Thank you gracious Lord. I feel great, have tons of energy, and am loving being more active with my little girls. Current clothes size is an 18. I was in a 30/32 at surgery date. I can honestly say in all my life I have never enjoyed shopping. I am starting to enjoy it now! I just wish my mind could catch up with my body and realize the changes that are taking place. My mind tries to tell me I'm still that 340+ pound person that wears a 30/32, can't fit in a booth, etc. Life is really good.

9/19/06: Just checked my BMI. It was 58.3 at surgery. I'm not at 40.6 5 1/2 months later!

10/6/06: I had my 6 month check up on Wednesday. The Dr. was very pleased with my progress. We are doing another scope on the 13th to see if my ulcer is still there. All my labs looked good except B-12 was a little low so I'm increasing my injections to twice a month. I'm down 106 pounds since 3/28/06. My long term goal right now is 180. We may adjust down the road. The plan is to lose around 33 more by my 1 year anniversary. Life is good!
