My dieting history started at 15 yrs. old. I’ve lost over 100lb 3 times pre-surgery in my life each time packing on a little bit more weight. The Last time this happened I went from what you consider a healthy overweight person to one that was not. I let all my muscle and flexibility go I basically turned into Jaba the Hut. I went from being able to 100 pushups, sit-ups and 20 pull-ups to be able to do none of those things. I could run 5 miles a day and not be winded to not being able to tie my shoes without sitting down or breaking into a cold sweat when trying to walk a small flight of steps. I was on blood pressure meds, diabetes meds, and in constant pain back pain.  In 2005 I had done all the perquisites for surgery and even had a date but I chickened out. The thing that finally brought me back to the table was the type 2 diabetes. I had to take pills to control it and I was out of control eating the wrong things. I knew if I didn’t do something soon it was going to turn in type1. It was enough to push me over the edge and have RNY surgery in 2013. I’ll be honest I was a silver bullet believer I thought that I would be cured.  We all know that’s not true. I lost weight at first and then life happened I fell back on my old habit of leaning on food for emotional soothing. I packed on 60lbs before, I took a good long hard look at myself in the mirror and decided enough was enough. I turned myself into my bariatric team and together we’ve worked on losing the regain and reaching my goal. Ultimately the real goal is to be successful at maintenance or life as I like to call it.

This is my unscientific option about us (weight loss surgery patients) we are all thinner overweight folks. We have to watch what we eat for life. Although we appear much thinner the difference between us and say a naturally thin person is our cells. We still have all of the cells we had when we started the little buggers are just shrunk down and our bodies are just dying to fill those cells up with energy(fat) which is why we can gain faster.

So I’m back on track and going to see where this leads me too. If I get to my BMI Chart weight eventually one day awesome. If I only get down to say 220 or even 199 I would be happy, heck I’m happy right now at 234, but I would be lying if I said I wouldn’t like a lose a bit more.
