Im home!

May 01, 2010

Well, I made it home and am officially 4 days post op. Let me first say that in no way do they prepare you for the pain you’re going to be in when you wake up in recovery. Good Lord! I consider myself a man’s man, fairly macho guy. I was literally yelling out “it hurts, it hurts, I need more medicine, Where’s my doctor?!” (not screaming but I was letting them know I was in a ton of pain.” I had a slight “complication” (if you want to call it that) turns out I was bleeding from the inside of my staple lines. The bad part was that we didn’t know it until the day after surgery I passed several bloody stools (sorry if TMI) but by that time they had already given me blood thinners which made it worse. I was so low on blood and week the day after that I couldn’t even sit up straight in my bed without the room spinning and almost passing out. They stopped my blood thinners and gave me a nuclear scan to make sure the bleeding stopped. Then I had to have 3 units of blood (which I was not happy about, the thought of a blood transfusion is scary to me.) Some of you might remember I was torn on whether to take the optional IVC filter. Well, I’m glad I did because it probably saved my life. Since I couldn’t be on blood thinners I would have had no protection at all against blood clots. Thank God I took it. Anyway, I am much better now and at home. I will keep you all updated.
