An Update 6 Years Later

Jan 10, 2010

Got a lovely anniversary letter from OH asking if I would update my profile since I haven't done it in 6 years. So here it is. I had RNY 6 years ago at Cedars Sinai in Los Angeles.  I lost 80 lbs. Went from 225 to 145 and never looked back! I gained 20 lbs twice, each time with the births of my 2 beautiful children, but it came off with a lot of hard work and exercise. I still exercise and eat right every day. It's just as I learned from my bariatric coordinator from day one: surgery is NOT a magic cure, it is only a TOOL. It will not keep the weight off magically. I have to do it myself. The surgery got the initial weight off, now it's up to me to maintain it. So I diet and exercise, and if I don't, well boy oh boy, do those pounds just creep back on!

I have zero regrets. Bariatric surgery is the best decision that I've ever made. I have my life back. I have no more knee pain, I don't sweat from just going up a flight of stairs, and I can actually breathe again because all the fat is off my diaphragm. I love who I've become. I love that I can play with my children and keep up with an active husband. I've travelled and done white water rafting and zip-lining, and things that obese people just don't, or can't do. I've been so fortunate to have been able to have WLS and to have had it be successful. So this is my update. I'm healthy, and I'm happy, and in another 6 years from now, I plan to have the same update! Here's to all of you out there - much success and health and happiness...you deserve it!
