My name is Lesley, I am 42 years old, I am 5ft 1in. and I weigh 230lbs. I am happily married to my high school sweetheart for 18 years, and he is so supportive of my WLS! I have 3 beautiful children, 15, 14, and 8. I have yo-yo dieted since I was a young adult. The lowest weight I have ever been is 110lbs. I would say that I have maintained a weight of 180lbs. for the past 4 years. This past year I was diagnosed with depression and anxiety. The medicine that I was put on has many side effects including weight gain. I have gained 50lbs in one year! Since I am now in remission My Dr. is slowly taking me off the meds, which should help me with some weight loss.

I started researching WLS 2 years ago, and at the time I was interested in the Lap Band. Unfortunatly when I contacted my insurance company, United Health care, they told me that I did not have Bariatric coverage. So I didn't persue it any further. I tried a few different weight loss programs, but just like in the past, they didn't work for very long. So, after this past year and my very large weight gain I decided to meet with another WLS. After speaking with him, and doing more research, I chose to look into getting the sleeve. The office was very accomodating and they said that they would call to see if my insurance would cover WLS. I still had UHC, so I tried not to get my hopes up. Just like before, they said that I did not have coverage, and that my husbands employer had chose not to include WLS in their policy period!

Needless to say I was crushed! I just broke down! How on earth could I lose this weight and keep it off for life?! My weight has held me back from persuing so many things! I felt so desperate! After I calmed down, my husband said that he would self pay for the surgery! At first I said no way! It is way too expensive! But my husband told me that he wanted me to feel good about myself, and that he and the kids needed me to be healthy and strong!! I love this man so much!!!

So now my weight loss journey has begun! I am scheduled for VSG on Tuesday, March 20th! I am so excited to be moving in a positive direction. I am looking foward to taking control of my life once and for all! I am so thankful for finding the OH web site, and for connecting with others that have had similar experiences! I look forward to supporting each other throughout this amazing journey!!!
