My my my time flies!

Aug 04, 2009

I can't believe that it's been 2 years already that I had my surgery. It has been a life changing experience for me. I had lost 220 pounds by early june and was still losing when I found out that I was pregnant! So obviously I've had to put the brakes on losing anymore weight for now and am trying to gain weight for the baby. I am about 14 1/2 weeks pregnant and so far the only problem is that my iron is very low, which has always happend when I was pregnant. Before surgery I had PCOS and every time I became pregnant would have a miscarriage followed by another pregnancy less than 30 days after the prior loss. Well this time around so far so good. All of my PCOS symptoms (except for the hair growth!) disappeared within a month of surgery and my overall health has been excellent since. Looking back, would I do this surgery again? My answer is yes only I would have done it much sooner.

OMG Where did a year go?!

May 26, 2009

I can't believe it's been over a year since the last time I posted on here. Where does the time go? I'm still losing weight, but at a much slower pace now. I am down to the last 35 pounds to lose and expect it to take some time as I have lost only 43 pounds this last year compared to losing 167 pounds the first year. I'm aiming for 2 to 3 pounds per month now, I think that is a realistic goal as my body has adjusted to it's new configuration and to continue to lose I have to be very diligent and carefull about what I put into my mouth. I firmly believe the journey (the losing weight part anyway) ends when you want it to end. As you get closer and closer to goal it gets harder and harder to shed those pounds and I realize that if I want to get there I have to just keep working at it much harder than before. I think that we get used to in the begining how easily the weight comes off without much effort and tend to forget that at some point we will have to work to make this tool continue to work.

OMG I am under 250 pounds!

May 10, 2008

I am now under 250 pounds I am 248 as of this morning, well actually it's been since Thursday but I wanted to make sure that it wasn't some fluke of the scale. I haven't been this weight in over 16 years.  I am so happy that this tool is wrking and that I have changed my lifestyle.  I no longer skip meals then gorge myself at one meal cause I've starved all day, I eat anything I want but I amke sure that what I eat is what I need for the day and then if I still have extra calories at the end of the dayI will and do give myself a treat within reason of my calorie limits, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the gym if feel crazy if I can't go, but most of all I really really truly love life again. I am finding that I want to do things that I hadn't thought about doing for the last 16 years. I realize that this surgery may not be what is best for everyone, if you really work hard at changing your eating and exercising habits you can and will be successful at this.

8 months out

Apr 03, 2008

WTH I can't believe that it has been 8 months already.  I had a few small bumps in the road at the beginning but I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat! Here's a few things that I've done/happened since surgery.

1. Got C-diff bacteria and ended up in hospital.
2. Because of being sick lost so much weight the first month they had to take out my gallbladder.
Now for the good stuff:
3. Made my goal of being under 300 pounds by thanksgiving.
4. Got a personal trainer in January, and now go to the gym 5 to 6 days a week.
5. Can out walk my husband and kids.
6. Lost a total of 150 pounds so far.
7. Am training to participate in the AVON Walk for Breast Cancer.
8. Can wear a size 18/20.
9. Feel good about myself and love life again.
10. Have no more PCOS symptoms (except for the stupid hair growth).

I love this tool and am thankful everyday for it.

Wow moment

Feb 29, 2008

Okay so 2 weeks ago I bought a swimsuit at walmart for this upcoming summer. I got a size time the 16/18 did not fit me at all, so last night my 5 year old asked me to try it on to see if it fit yet, I thought no way it will fir it didn't 2 weeks ago.  Well guess what it fit!!!! I was shocked, so now I need to go and take it back to Walmart and get the next smaller size and hope that I won't get too small for it before June. I'm too chicken to get the 8/10 cause I don't think that I'll be that small by summer but I am going to get the 12/14.  I still can't believe that I can fit "regular" clothes now.

I will have to post pics when I learn how to do it.

Just had my 6 month check up

Feb 25, 2008

I just got home from my 6 month follow up and I am really happy. My surgeon said I am doing a phenomenal job and told me to keep doing what I am doing and I will get to my goal weight.  My surgeon is the type of man that is usually very reserved and I was really in shock to see how happy he was with my progress. He kept telling me that I look really good and healthy.  He told me to keep up with my exercising and when I told him how much time I spend at the gym he told me to keep it up to never stop exercising. I think that he was amazed that I ride the exercise bike for 30 miles 5 days a week.  I am actually closer to being 7 months out but as of today I have lost a total of 150 pounds and couldn't feel healthier or happier. I am so greatfull for this tool it has taught me alot about myself and how I view food.

Nearing the 6 month mark.

Jan 26, 2008

Just a quick post to let you all know how I'm doing. I am getting close to being 6 months out, and am happy to say that I have lost a total of 136 pounds so far. I am about halfway to my goal.  Things have been good since my gallbladder surgery and for the most part I don't get sick too much anymore, except for when I eat cold meats, my pouchy does not like it!!  I've recently started to go to the gym and work with a trainer, so that has been an adventure but I love it. I think that I am addicted to the gym, (hey maybe that will be my transfer addiction) I am going twice a day most days.  It is truly amazing the amount of energy that I have these days.

First Goal Met!

Nov 21, 2007

Wow, it's been a while since I last updated. It's amazing how fast the time goes by.  I met my first goal today. I am so happy to be under 300 pounds. As of this morning I am 298.8. I made it before Thanksgiving!!!

Surgery on Tuesday

Sep 28, 2007

Just a quick update. I am going to have surgery on tuesday to remove my gallbladder so I hope that it goes well and I can get back to losing.  I've had a rough start of things since surgery. I had the C-diff bacteria and it came back even worse and I ended up in the hospital for 7 days. While I was there they discovered the gallstones.  I got a cold last week and am finally over that and now have to do this.  But even though it's been hard I am happy to say that as of today I have lost 62 pounds since surgery and a total of 87 since I started this journey. My BMI is under 50 yay!!

Staples are Out!

Aug 14, 2007

Hey everyone, I got my staples out yesterday and found out I am down 15 pounds since surgery on Aug. 3rd.  I am happy!!!  It is so hard to beleive it, I have never been able to lose this much weight so quickly, even by starving!

I did have one minor problem that showed up a few days after surgery, it's not really related to this surgery, but any surgery you might have.  The antibiotics that they give you in the your IV killed off all my good stomach bacteria and since tuesday I've had the runs (eww gross). I am just starting a new round of antibiotics today that will get rid of the bad bacteria, so hopefully I will be on track soon.
