No coward soul is mine
Dec 28, 2007
Weight loss was never easy for me. In school, I would try to lose weight by eating carrots and sipping diet coke- then as soon as I got home a king size bag of Doritos would jump into my hands.
By the time I was 20 my weight was up to 143 and I was a size 13. My friend suggested a diet pill that you had to get by prescription, but it really worked. So I went on Fastin for three months and lost enough weight to get into a bikini for the first time. Within a year that weight had not only returned but brought some buddies too. I tried Fastin again after the birth of my son and once again it worked like magic until I stopped, then I gained twice as much.
Six years later I was over 200 pounds and decided to go back to college. St. Pete JC was a great place and a year later I transferred to the University of South Florida and earned my B.A. in secondary English education. As soon as the celebrations were over, I ended up in the hospital with congestive heart failure. This was when I decided to start listening to my doctor and really lose weight. He gave me Xencial and 40 pounds later, I felt like I owned the moon.
Bad habits make our lives so complicated and fast food was the easy answer when I worked late and was too tired to cook. Before I could blink an eye, diabetes reared it's ugly head and kicked my butt up and down the street. It's been a double-edged sword, not only do I have Neuropathy in my hands and feet, but all of the medications, including insulin, make me gain.
Dr. Yves Morency, my pcp, and I have been working on securing weight loss surgery for two years. He referred me to Dr. Rehnke and the whole process started. I also met Dr. Grossbard, the assisting surgeon as well as Sue Kay, R.N. at a seminar. They've both had the lap band and I felt so much hope after talking to them. I know that I made the right decision. God will guide my journey as he has always.
