Well let see...where do I start. I have been researching WLS for almost 7 yrs. Had an appointment with a surgeon back in June of 2001, but changed careers and never made it. With the career change came insurance that would cover the WLS, but just as luck would have it, the policy changed and no longer covered WLS. So on hold it went. So here I am again, in pursuit of my new life now that I have insurance that covers WLS.
I am 42 yrs old. I am married to the love of my life and have a wonderful stepson. I have been over weight pretty much my entire life. I don't guess I paid much attention to my weight until around the 9th grade. That time sticks out in my mind because it was during the gym class height and weight day that i stepped in the scale and heard the gym teacher say "180lbs" I was mortified to say the least. I was the heaviest kid in class. My weight stayed right around that area for many years. Of course as I grew taller (5'9 )that weight did not seem so bad. ( at least that what I told myself) I guess i was probably 20 when I went over the 200 mark. My just seemed to climb after that. I went on diet after diet. I would lose 10, 20 even 30 lbs, but in the end, it would all come back and then some. 3 yrs ago I went on the Atkins diet and lost nearly 60lbs. that was the most I had ever lost on a diet. But, you guessed it, it all came back plus 10lbs. I quit smoking during that time as well and like to blame that on putting the weight back on, but in reality, I know it had nothing to do with it. For the last 18 months I have been on Weight Watchers and working out at least 2-3 times a week. I have lost a grand total of 17lbs. How disheartening is that.
I pray that this surgery will give me my life back. I am so tired of being tired. Of not having the energy to do things with my family. My knees and hips ache, I don;t sleep well. I am soooo ready to start my new life.
