25 + years out from Gastric Bypass

Jun 30, 2026

Twenty-five years ago, having gastric bypass surgery was one of the best decisions I ever made. At 40 years old, I weighed 400 pounds and felt like I was watching life pass me by instead of truly living it.

That surgery gave me a second chance. At 49, I went back to school to become a registered nurse. I prayed that I would be able to work at Northside Hospital—the very hospital where my life had been changed. That prayer was answered. I worked on the bariatric unit for many years, then went back to school again. Today, I have the privilege of serving as the Bariatric Clinical Coordinator.

I am living proof that dreams really do come true. No matter where you are today, you have the power to change your life for the better. I’m living my best life, doing things I never imagined I’d be able to do, and embracing opportunities I once thought were impossible.

Life is so good… and life is so good in this body. I am incredibly grateful for my second chance.
