Since nutrition alone doesn't seem to be boosting my weight up (I'm still bouncing around between 104 - 107) I decided to start working with a personal trainer to do weight lifting activities to gain more lean muscle mass and gain weight. I'm really hoping that this combined with as many calories as I can intake during a day will eventually get me to at least 110 pounds. (I'm being realistic here - I think 115 - 120 would be better, but I don't see it happening right now without a revision...)

Backpacking is ON again!

It's a week late, but we're doing a trip that will take us through Quinnebaugh Meadows in the mountains on day 1, and day 2 I guess is nothing but switchbacks all the way up this one mountain and then down again. It should be interesting.

I found some easy calorie sources - apparently Jelly Belly makes these 100 calorie packs of extra large Jelly Bellies in fruit punch flavor. I'll be snacking on those when we're not stopping for snacks. I also found out I love the Carrot Cake Cliff bar. The sugar doesn't make me sick, so that's another good source of quick calories. We bought some additives for water to replace my electrolytes as the hike progresses, and I've got a bunch more energy bars to taste before packing up on Friday. I love that you can buy them one at a time at Albertson's instead of having to waste money on a box of them, only to find out you hate them.

I think we're estimating 15 miles over the two days, with one of the days being mostly an uphill climb, so it should be pretty intense. I figure if I lose weight out there, I'll come home and work hard at gaining it back.

Postponing Backpacking

Due to having a 24hr stomach flu, we had to cancel our plans to go backpacking this holiday weekend because it caused an 8 pound weight loss. It really sucks, but I'm going to really try hard to regain that water loss so I can go on a group trip in a few weekends. (Now that I'm keeping food and liquids in, I've gained 2 pounds! Yay!) I've got all kinds of new equipment that I didn't get a chance to use last season, so I'm excited to get out there and get going!

I'm not supposed to be working out right now per advice from my nut, but I'm getting to that point where I don't want to waste another summer sitting at home fighting a surgery or my body weight anymore. I figure, I go out, do my best to eat as much calorie-dense food as possible, and if I lose weight, gain it when I get back home. But I also need to start working out on my elliptical, otherwise I won't be able to keep up. Need that leg strength! That kind of workout is what I'm worried about. I don't want to lose weight doing cardio. But I'm not sure what else to do. Maybe weight training instead.

Here I was, thinking I was actually gaining weight. The scale was flying up in pounds everyday, and I actually hit 112lbs, which would've accomplished my goal +2 extra pounds. I could even see my tummy sticking out a bit (I looked pregnant because of the tummy tuck). But yesterday I got on the scale and it was down to 109, and today I'm down to 107. I must've been retaining water or something that caused the weight jump.

On a happier note, I found a cute UNDERWIRE bikini at this hip second-hand store not far from my house. I'll upload some pics tonight. The top actually holds me all in, and it doesn't give me any "granny" boob effect (where all you see is wrinkly loose skin). My thighs and butt are nothing to write home about, but I'm learning to deal with it because I'm not having surgery on that part of my body. I also found some super cute things that fit, and some even uber super cute things that didn't fit. For the first time in over two years, I finally met some people who either had, or were going to have, WLS and lived in our little city of Billings. I had a blast hearing everyone's stories, and maybe I can make some new friends from this. (Especially for the pre-ops who may want shopping buddies as the weight comes off! Yes, I have a problem. Shoes and clothes. I can't help myself. I'll be shopping tomorrow after work...)

If any of you ladies are reading this, I forgot that I wanted to exchange email addresses last night, so we didn't always have to go through OH to communicate. I don't have much privacy at work anymore, so it's hard for me to log into the site to reply to messages.

Anyway, it was nice meeting everyone, and I'll definitely meet up with y'all again!

Somehow dropped 2 pounds since yesterday, despite upping my calories. Now at 104lbs. Went on a high calorie shopping trip this afternoon. It's very strange to walk past the low-fat, low-cal, low sugar things I usually eat and buying all these calorie dense, fatty foods instead.

Confirmed, I need to gain some weight. Our initial goals are to stop the weight loss and gain to 110lbs at a rate of around 1/2 a pound a week. So here's what my menu plan looks like at the moment:

Breakfast
-----------
4 oz mocha (my usual white chocolate, strawberry mocha)
250cal yogurt

Snack
------------
3 tablespoons of peanut butter on saltines

Lunch
-------------
"Sandwich" (eat until full) with mayo.
Fries or similar as tolerated

Snack
-------------
Throughout afternoon
2 cheese sticks
V-8

Dinner
--------------
2oz meat (minimum)
1 starch (I like peas and corn)
2 fats

Evening Snacks
------------------
Dip made from regular sour cream (6 tablespoons minimum)
Fresh veggies in the dip
1/2 sugar fruit juice (8oz as tolerated)
1/2 cup full fat cottage cheese
1/2 cup canned or fresh fruit

Whew! Also I have some supplements to add to my food for extra calories.

2 Year Anniversary

Well it's been 2 years since my RNY, and I should be celebrating (plus tomorrow's my birthday) but I just got on the scale and saw it at 106lbs. I'm officially underweight and not very happy about it.

Well, I'm now a pound away from being underweight. I'm not happy about that. I have some connections (it's hard to find specialists out here) and I'm going to be meeting with a nutritionist soon to help plan out healthy meals that will help me maintain and even gain 5 - 10 lbs. I'm pretty excited about that. I'm so picky about food - I hope we can come up with something I like and something that works.
