Continue slow loss

Mar 28, 2010

I am now at 193.  I can eat almost anything in small amounts.  Notice I said, "Almost"?  Milk and sugar are not on my diet without getting very sick.

Dropping weight

Jan 30, 2010

Today I became a one-er.  198 pounds.  I am so excited.  Would I do it again?  Yeah, as long as I have Dr. Gibbs and Dr. Searcy.

200 Even

Jan 28, 2010

I awoke this morning at 200 pounds.  I am 7 months out and started at 278.  I am still going through medical issues from the surgery.  Not necessarilt the RNY.  I also had an extensive Hernia Repair done.  I have not seen the 100's in over 15 years.  I look forward to the next few days to see if I can creep to the 100's.

Fluid Retention

Jan 22, 2010

I went into the radiology clinic and had a little more than 7 liters of fluid drained from my tummy area.  I also lost 15 pounds.  My clothes are to big now.  Look forward to the tummy tuck to take off the extra skin.

Choking on vitamins

Nov 08, 2009

Every time I try to take my Calcium or hair and nail vitamin I begin chocking and dry heaving.  They seem to hang in my throat.  Does anyone else have this problem?

Finally Home

Sep 09, 2009

Well I went in on June 8.  I developed ARDS and was kept in a coma for 2 months.  I awoke on August 7.  I have spent the last 2 weeks in rehab at Babtist Hospital in Little Rock.  But, I have completed my surgeries and the surgery sites have healed.  I am back!!!!!!!!!  I can walk with a walker and short distances without the walker.

The Day Before

Jun 07, 2009

Tomorrow will be my surgery.  I am both nervous and anxious.  I began the prep in 30 minutes.  There is no turning back.  I have vitamins and necessary foods waiting.  I have bought my protein and have it in a box waiting.  I wonder what great stories I will be telling in a year or two.
Will I or can I be thin and healthy like others I read about?  Only time will tell.  I pray I keep on track and stay focused on why I am here today.  Without the aide of vomiting.
This is my last ditched chance of being healthy again.  I welcome this change with open arms.  Whatever happens happens.  I hope to get to go to the Support Group meeting on Thursday.  If not I will be thinking of all my new found friends and I will then see all of you on the next meeting.
As long as Linda and I are on the same floor, I will be seeing her.
Thanks to everyone for the wonderful information and support I have received.
Very special thanks to Ms. Carrie for all the hard work she does to make this possible.

Would you do it over again?

Jun 04, 2009

I am having open RNY on Monday.  I am nervous and questioning this decision.  Maybe I have researched it to much.  I read about the complications and they concern me.  I had surgery that did not heal correctly last year. (Hernia Repair)  My doctor and I believe it was because of my weight and the pressure on the hernia that made it come back.  The goal is to lose enough weight so I do not have to have another hernia repair.  This will be number 6.
But my question to all of you who have gone through this is, "Would you do it again and why?"  I want the good and the bad.  My decision is made and everyone I talk to say they would.  But nobody has told me why.  I am OK in my own skin, except the hernia.  So, please let me know how your life is different since the surgery.

Approval

Jun 04, 2009

Went to the Baptist to do my pre-op test and meet with the dietitian.  When all that was done I had a voicemail from Dr. Gibbs office.  Carrie (his nurse) called to tell me the approval was completed.  When I talked to her yesterday she asked, "Don't you trust me?"  I told her it wasn't her I was worried about.  It was the insurance company.
Tricare is wonderful.  I am so glad I have it available to me.  I got my referral and was approved in a very short time.  Because of my history over the last year with Dr. Gibbs and all the records he had available to them, it was completed in a flash.  I am so happy.

Referral

Jun 01, 2009

Went on base and got my referral.  It went like a breeze.  It will be online for Carrie to see this afternoon.  YEA!  I was told I would have to attend a seminar and 3 appointments before they would approve surgery.  I have already done those.  I wonder if they count if you do it prior to referral.  Doctor said I would not get rid of the staph until after I have the surgery.  It is caused by my tummy rubbing.  But, assured me it would get better shortly after surgery.  He agreed the surgery needed to be done quickly.
