9 days out

Aug 14, 2009

O.K. So I am only a bit over a week out but as of yesterday I have lost 27 lbs. from 2 weeks before surgery till now. Which is just awesome in my book. I had to go to my PCP to check if I had a UTI, which I do :( but they also said there were a lot of ketones in my urine. Which explains the swear sock in my mouth. Yuck! I can't seem to do anything to get the taste out of my mouth. I have been brushing my teeth countless times a day and popping tic tacks like there going out of style. It helps temporally but not for long.   While I was in the hospital I was having a lot of nausea, but not any since I am home. I have had no trouble getting in my fluids and protein shakes. I hated the tubes! All of them. I got my 2nd drain tube out on Wednesday.
It wasn't working right on tuesday night and they said not to worry about it since I had
an apt the next day. I went in and some how the tube was already out. I guess it just
worked it's way out on it's own. My MIL had just changed the dressing on Tuesday night
and it was definitely still in, but not by the time I got there. They said I was at 9% EWL at one week out. I am really feeling so much better now, just tired. I also pulled a muscle in my back the other day putting my lap top down.
LOL No more reaching with even slightly heavy objects for me. Lesson learned.

I am still working on getting in all of my vitamins. there sure are a lot of them. In time I will get them all in.

I just feel so blessed to be going thru this without complications. So greatful that I haven't had a change in my tastes. Granted I am still on liquids until tomorrow. I get to move up to pureed. I can't believe I am actually looking forward to
pureed food.

Most of all I have to say how happy I am to have found this great forum and my other local on line group and dsfacts.com. All of which have been such great sources of information to me and so many others. I didn't hardly ever have to post a question because they had already been answered. I have so many bookmarks it is crazy. I just don't want to forget any good information.

Thanks for all of the kind words on my support page. Especially for the comment that AA left. "Remember us when you enter the OR. It'll really help to feel us behind you. Best of luck.     — A A.
That really did help me get thru the nerves. I just kept reminding myself thru everything that there have been so many before me who have done this, and they got thru it fine, and so would I.

Also a big thanks to Hope G. for calling me and making me feel more at ease, and Jenna Lynn for the visit in the hospital. It was very nice to see a friendly face, and have someone to talk to for a bit. (other then family, I see them all the time!)
