Thought I would do an update given some recent events. I just came home today from the hospital. I had been there since Saturday. 3 Days. So here's the scoop. I came home after surgery with a UTI. I went to my PCP for that and was treated with Cipro. Then from that (the Cipro, and the other antibiotics in the hospital) I ended up with a yeast infection. So I was given yet another antibiotic. All of this stuff just set my insides off in the worst way. I had diarrhea and could not keep up with the fluid loss. Then the nausea started, which made getting fluids in even harder. I was feeling lousy and getting worse quick. I called my surgeon's office to see if there was something I could take to fix the situation or what else I could do. They suggested if I was having that much trouble getting fluids in to go to the ER and get some IV fluids, so off to the ER I went. I figured a few hours at most. Boy was I wrong. 3 days. They ran a ton of tests. since I was having such nausea they put me back on clear liquids, and kept me there to wait out the diarrhea and nausea. It was frustrating to be there, but I understand that they just wanted to make sure I was better before sending me home so I didn't end up back there. I am very grateful for my caring surgeon and his team of doctors. They could of easily sent me on my way, but instead followed thru and made sure I would be well enough to not come back. I just look at it like this, there are so many bigger bumps in the road I could of hit, this was just a little speed bump. (Jenna, that was for you) I was just saying last week how good I felt. It can turn around quickly and it can come from a direction you would never expect. Pre-op I would never of thought anything about a bit of diarrhea from some antibiotics. Dehydration is a whole different ball game post-op. It happens so quickly. I am feeling much better now, just super tired. I'm off for now, to go and sip, sip, sip, and then after that I think I'll sip some more.
