I brief history of girlynerd

Jan 24, 2009

Hello!
It has taken me a year to get to this point, but I finally had my surgery on Jan 12th 2009. I chose the Lap-band for a whole hosts of reasons, but mainly because it was less drastic. Every time I looked at that gastric bypass illustrated cut-out hanging on the wall of the doctors office, and saw the stomach kinda floating off to the right, it just freaked me out a bit. So I opted for the band. The other plus was you lost weight slower, which meant I hopefully wouldn't loose any hair.
I was approved by Blue Cross Blue Shield MA at the end of December of 2008, and my beginning BMI was just over 40. Like .2 over. I was otherwise healthy candidate.
I had my surgery and was approved for 4 weeks disability from my Metlife Short Term Disability plan. I'm glad I took 4 weeks, not because I was in pain or anything (after the first week and a half, there was no pain), but just to get accustom to the new diet. Liquids for about 2 weeks and then pureed foods, which I am on right now as I am writing this.
So far so good. I'm amazed at how full I am with such small amounts, and for the length of time I'm full. I ate about one and a half cups of chili yesterday, and was full for about 4-5 hours, and I mean really full! No desire to eat anything. Ive started eating my dinner for lunch, because it holds me over for so long. I now have my yogurt for dinner. And this is all before my first fill. Amazing.

The one thing I do hate though, is writing everything down. O how I hate the food log. I'm gonna be honest, I can't see keeping to this. I can handle everything about this whole process, even the liquid diet, but the food log is killing me. Constantly writing every little detail of my life.
