I had plastic surgery on Monday, May 11, 2009. I had an abdominoplasty, extended and brachioplasty, both better known as a tummy tuck, extended and upper arm surgery. I had to pay for it all. Even though I have had rashes, tummy muscle cramps from the hanging skin and numbness and tingling in my lower arms all caused by the excess skin, my health insurance did not cover. The doctor and the surgery center said they will submit to the insurance company but don't expect anything. It would be nice, but I did it now and I'm glad I did.
Doc said there was no fat, just excess skin. She removed 7 1/2 lbs. of skin from my tummy...
and over 1/2 lbs each from my arms. I was and still am amazed. I knew I had a lot of hanging skin but didn't realize just how much. Too bad I jumped up in weight before the surgery...I was a wreck and not eating right as you can imagine. The day of surgery, I cried and wondered if I was doing the right thing. Anyway, I still am lower in weight than my last lowest weight (142) so I'll take it and hopefully I can still get to my goal of 125.On another note, I can't wait to wear my sundresses without a jacket to cover my arms. I actually am wearing sleeveless now, as long as I don't lift my arms up....I'm told the incisions will fade and I use Mederma on them as well. Now that I'm starting to feel better, it is getting exciting. I will still have to wear shorts with my bathing suit because my upper, inner thighs are really large and I'm just not ready for that surgery. I may never be. As long as I can wear sleeveless and feel good about myself, the rest is fine. My reduction in tummy size seems to have effected my slacks size but I am not wearing slacks right now anyway...they bother me where the incision is, so I'm just wearing loose fitting dresses. I started out just wearing light robes that zip up the front....no lifing over my head. Anyway, everything seems to be going well.
For anyone from my area, Dr. Janette Alexander of Potomac Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Center is my doctor for this. She's located in Rockville on Shady Grove Rd.
