Surgery December 22nd 2009

Jan 05, 2010

So I got down to 237lbs from 255lbs prior to surgery. Since surgery I'm down to 224. I can't believe the pace of weight loss! I don't even know if I'm on track with most people but I'm pretty happy. I've only got another 60 or so pounds to go and I think that's doable within the year. So I'm excited!

The surgery was uneventful. I woke up in a little bit of pain but they gave me meds and I was fine. I walked like crazy in the hospital and came home on time. I've been doing well at home though not tracking everything as strictly as I should be. I guess I figure that right now I'm sip sip sipping and barely allowed to eat anything so as long as I'm getting my water and protein I'm not worrying about anything else. When I start puree I'll be diligent about logging my food choices. There are only so many calories in jello, pudding, yogurt, milk, and protein drinks. Other than water that's all that's going in so I'm good.

Next week I'll probably go back to work some. I know it's before the 4 week mark, but I just can't stay home any longer. I'm bored out of my skull, feel full of energy, and am going to be a broke fool if I don't get back to work. I nanny triplets and am missing them.

Protein Drink of Today:

8oz. Skim Milk 8g Protein
4oz. Water
Syntrax Chocolate Truffle 23g Protein
In the blender bottle with 3 ice cubes
2 tbsp of PB2 5g Protein

All shaken together for a whopping 36grams of protein! I add the water because pookie the pouch doesn't tolerate thick protein drinks but seems ok with thinner ones. Plus it just adds to my liquid consumption for the day! :)

Getting there!

Apr 22, 2009

So, a lot has happened since my last post. I had my consult with Dr. Hess. It went great. They thought I was a good candidate are were more than willing to attempt to accomodate my school schedule. If all goes according to plan, I'm looking at surgery in mid July. I saw the Dietician today and that went well. I'm steadily losing weight, and all I've really changed is I'm walking more due to having a dog now. She said I don't have to lose anymore prior to surgery, I just can't gain. That said, I meet with the nutritionist next week so we'll see what she says. Then I have my second appts with both of them on June 2nd, and my Psych evaluation on June 10th.

I have to run for now but will update more soon. :)

Set up my consult!

Dec 17, 2008

So yesterday Dec. 16th I went to my PCP and spoke with her about WLS. She agreed that it seemed like a good option for me because I have so many co-morbidities. She also thinks I may have PCO (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) which she said may be in part due to my weight. I'm having an ultrasound done next month to see.

I really like my Doctor and the office staff is really nice but they chat a little too much so you kind of have to pester to get things done. That said, they told me they had faxed the referral and medical neccessity but when I contacted Dr. Hess's office they hadn't received any. So I got on the phone and played a good game of phone tag. They said they had sent it but I asked them to resend it please while I was on hold and then come back and let me know the conformation number. So they did. I called Dr. Hess's office back and was notified that they had received it.

My consult is now set up for January 29th at 1:00 at BMC. :)

Just one more step in the right direction!

Contact Made

Dec 12, 2008

Well I got in touch with Dr. Hess from Boston Medical Center. I have BMC Healthnet, so BMC is my only option. That worked out very well though because it sounds like Dr. Hess is an accomplished surgeon. I have an appt. with my PCP on the 16th of this month. I need to talk to her about wanting WLS and hope that she's on board with it. If not I will have to find a different PCP because I've tried everything else!
