17 days Post Op and Counting down one day at a time.....

Nov 05, 2007

Sick and tired of not feeling normal but that is just going to take time! I have lost over 15 pounds and that is great for me! Some days I feel hungry and some days I cant hardly get anything solid down. Physically, this surgery was pretty easy for me. I guess Dr. Friedman sure has the touch or else it is easier on someone who weighs 220 rather than 320. I don't really understand why some people recover fast and others have so much physical discomfort, but I am sure we all have the psychological aspects. I had a great weekend away at a football game. I was happy to be the designated driver which also included making sure people got to go out to eat, etc. It did get old realizing that at 2 weeks out from surgery, most restaurants had nothing I could eat. And try telling a waiter you want "nothing" to drink, and they can't believe you don't even want water! Too much to explain. So, i am taking one day at a time, realizing that 3 months post op will be here before I know it, right??? My post op friend says that is the point that it will all come a lot easier. Plus, 15 pounds is great, but not enough for anyone to even notice it, if you know what I mean. Now 30-that might get noticed. So, when I get the rewards of weight really being down, the discomfort and other things associated with getting used to this new pouch will seem like so little of a sacrifice. I am glad I did it, I can say that.

3 days after surgery

Well, I must say that things are going very well for me. I had my recliner ready to sleep in at first since so many blogs mentioned this, but was happy to be able to sleep very well in my comfy bed. I was Dr. Friedman's "first" and he was wonderful. All the nurses felt like their "baby" had grown up! I told him there was a lot of pressure on me to do well, being his first and all.....The recliner is my favorite hanging out chair though-less pressure on my stomach to get up from it. I am eating 2 "entrees", 1 ounce each, and tolerating it well. Cold beverages give me a freeze, so I will lay off them for a few weeks. I am using lactose free milk which I am glad about since my online buddy who just had surgery got sick from regular milk. I feel very bad for her and am so thankful I did not go through that at this point. I get so much information online reading posts and can't wait to meet some of these gals at the support group in November. I had gained weight in spite of not eating food for 5 days, so I was glad to be prepared for that from reading other's blogs and books or I would have freaked out! "What the hell! I just went through all this and i have gained from my hospital stay????" But I knew to expect it so I was ok.  The scales are beginning to go in the direction I want, so I can relax with the process and concentrate on getting all the basics down of how to eat and drink, and the other (weight loss) will come. I still can't believe I am going to lose massive amounts of weight. It is all still very surreal to me.

GOT A DATE!

I HAVE A SURGERY DATE OF OCTOBER 19TH AND I'M TRYING TO GET PREPARED! I am reading books, looking at what to expect, and what preparations I need to make to be as ready as possible.

Hi Everybody!

Sep 20, 2007

Just found this site. I am glad it is a site with local people. I have been approved by my insurance company and am waiting for my surgery date with Dr. Friedman. The waiting is certainly an exercise in patience. With me, it is mostly wanting a date so I can schedule my life! I am sure you all understand this. Just reading so far has enlightened me about how long it takes to get the surgery on the calendar once you are approved. One question I have for you guys is: Once I have my surgery, how long (if I have no complications, etc) would it be before I could- 1.) ride in a car for a 5 hour trip, 2. ) Go to a college football game, which would involve some walking and walking up stairs. I know it is 4-6 weeks before I can resume exercise, but I am trying to estimate realistically how long my life activities will be on hold. I am pretty healthy and 220 lbs. Thanks for the help guys.
