Third Fill
Oct 20, 2006
I had my third fill today. As usual it was easy breasy. I really do love Dr. Vernon. I wish she was my PCP. I'm hoping this fill will get me back on track mentally. I've been on vacation mentally from my eating habits for a while. My restriction level is pretty good, but I'm still eating more than I should. I'm committed to getting my booty back to the gym too.
The beginning
Oct 20, 2006
Rather than posting all of my former updates individually, I'm going to be lazy and post them all as one post. They are not very exciting anyway, so I'm sure nobody will mind.
My name is Maria and I am 31 years old (32 on 10/5/06). I decided to do this surgery because I was sick and tired of my weight holding me back. There are so many things I want to do and see and I realized I've been just wasting my life sitting home and being fat. I wanted to do this while I'm still young enough to enjoy it and before I develop any comorbities that will make it harder.
6/28/06--I will be banded tomorrow! Much excitement. Onward to the new me.
7/1/06--Well I'm a bandster now! I started on protein shakes--Carb Conscious Carnation instant breakfast, which is what my Doc recommends. It tastes really good, so I don't mind it. I'm on my second shake for the day--need 5 to meet protein/calorie requirements. So far so good. Everything seems to be going down very smoothly. Not too much pain. Dr. Vernon said that the band went on very smoothly, so I'm guessing that's why I'm feeling so good.
7/6/06--This liquid diet thing is much harder than I thought it would be. It's not really being hungry, but I so hate artificial sweetners. I feel like i can't get away from them with this diet. It's starting to make me nauseous just to think about drinking a shake--even though I keep trying to change up the flavors. I know this is mostly mental and I just have to get over with it. I just know I will be much happier once I can have real food.
7/10/06--Had my first follow-up today with Dr. Vernon. I lost 13.5 lbs. since surgery. Whoo hoo!. She says everything is progressing well. My first fill will be in August.
7/14/06--Started mushy food today. Hurray!!! It's so good to eat things that taste like real food. So far so good. Everything has gone down like it's supposed to.
7/31/06--Went to the nutritionist today. I weighed in at 328, that is 28 lbs. total. Whoo hoo! I'm already down a size. She said my food choices have been very good so far and to keep up what I've been doing. Also started solid food this weekend. So happy about that. I finally feel like a normal person. Can't wait for my fill, to see how that changes everything.
8/21/06--A little behind with this update. I had my first fill on Friday 8/18/06. So far so good. It was miserable to be on liquids again. Although, Matrix 5.0 chocolate is definitely by far the best protein shake I've tried. It worked out well, though, because I lost another 1 1/2 lbs. Whoo hoo. I'm down 38 lbs. and I'm fitting into clothes from the back of my closet. I was able to get into size 26 pants at Lane Bryant. Too tight to wear, but they buttoned and zipped. Very exciting. I think the fill is working, because I'm definitely feeling full on a cup of food again. I hope that it sticks. It's only another month until my next fill anyway. I'm now looking into upping my calories for the day to compensate for the exercise I'm doing. We'll see how that goes.
9/24/06--I had my second fill on 9/22 and so far I think this one is a keeper. I definitely feel a real difference on this one. I know I'll have to be more careful for a while. I'm wondering how much is swelling and how much is the fill. For the first time though, the shakes are actually staying with me and they are not just going right through. For the first time I actually feel like I need to "sip" my shakes. This is exciting. I've already lost two pounds since my fill, which is great because I had been away for the weekend and was kind of off track. I go away again next week, but I think I should be able to stick to the program for the most part. I'm so close to 50 lbs, it's exciting. I'm hoping to be at 300 or below before my next trip next week. It's doable, but I'm not going to set my heart on it. If it happens, it will just be a wonderful bonus to take with me on my trip.
