I am the happy recipient of a lap band which I've had since August 8, 2007. I have lost 107 pounds and 68 inches. I wore a size 26 the week before surgery and I recently bought a size 6 jeans. I LOVE my new life.
I was always obese. I lost a lot of weight in my life with a plethora of diets. The weight always returned. My band has given me the hope that I can actually keep the weight off. My insurance would not cover the band, but it's the best $15,000 dollars I have ever spent.
I am married and have two children-Namia, 19 and Tarik, 13. My husband and children have been so encouraging. My daughter even lets me have clothes she no longer wants. I refused to cook my first year after surgery, so they took care of their own meals. I cook a little now, but food isn't my top priority in life.
I am a very social and talkative person. I did not want to exercise alone, so my sweet husband changed his routine and walks 5 1/2 miles with me 5 days a week. I lost my weight with my band, but I keep it off with the help of my band and walking.
I attend our support groups at the Foundation Bariatric Clinic 2-3 times monthly. They help me keep on track. I enjoy responding to questions from others on Obesity Help.
I have enjoyed many "yee haw" moments since losing the weight. I love riding go-carts with my son. I now sit with my husband on the airplane. In the past I always sat with my youngest child so I had extra room. Instead of going to the gym on our last cruise, I just danced every night.
I am interested in encouraging others in their pursuit of weight loss. I am 49 years old and have wasted many years. I plan to use the ones I have remaining enjoying life and helping others.
