I started researching about WLS over 2 years ago, when I decided I was going to have it done I had no idea who to go to. I know a lady that had it done so I asked her who she used and was she happy about her results and she gave me the name of a doctor at St. Alexis hospital in St. Louis. So my husband and I drove there and went to a seminar and filled out all the papers and started waiting. Well a couple weeks later I got my papers back from them and they stated that the doctor that had excepted Medicare was retiring and was not going to do anymore surgeries. Well now you can image how that made me feel. But I know now that God was in it. One night while I was on the net, I stumbled onto the website for OH and I was elated to see other people in their before and after shots. So when I started looking for a doctor, Dr. Hornbostel's name kept coming up. Then I started reading the testimonies from his patients and I knew I wanted to go see him. I called them and they told me about getting the COE and I was devastated because I thought that was the end of that. Then the lady I was talking to told me that I could go ahead and come to one of Dr. Hornbostal's seminars and get all signed up and then I would be on the waiting list and then all I had to do was wait until they got their COE.

My husband and I went to the seminar by Dr. Hornbostal last night. We were very impressed with the Doc. doing his own meeting with perspective patients. Learned a lot.

I have got my first appointment to see Dr. Hornbostal. I go to see him 5/10/2006. I'm still a little nervous about the whole thing. But I'm ready to get started.

Well my husband and I went to Sedalia Wednesday for my eval. from Dr. H. He said I qualified for surgery ! YEA!! He gave me a notebook full of information for before and after surgery, I'm sure he gives these out to everyone, pretty routine. I wasn't in his office but about an hour. Seems like so little considering we drove 6 hours to get there, had to spend the night and drive 6 hours home ! Well that’s how it has to be, because my insurance will only pay to a COE. He said I had to come back about 2 weeks before surgery to do my evals. with dietary, PT, and do my pre-op tests. He told me I would probably get a surgery date around the last 2 weeks in June, pending insurance approval. I am so ready for this, We have been checking into this surgery for 2 years before I made my decision. My husband wants to have it done also, but right now his insurance will not pay for the surgery. He has United Healthcare does anyone out there have this insurance? Maybe you can tell us how to get it covered. Dr. H. said a lot of insurance companies are coming on board now because they have finally figured out in the long run its cheaper to pay for the surgery than to pay for all the medicine and medical care that’s needed for diabetes, high blood pressure and other illness's caused from being overweight.

I just got a call from Dr. Hornbostal's office and she gave me a surgery date of 08/17/06. I am so happy to know just when I will jump over to the losing side!
