I am 54 years old, seperated, with 2 adult children my daughter is 32 and my son is 28. My son has 2 beautiful children and my grandson and granddaughter are the apple of Grammies eye. But Grammie is limited what she can do because of my weight. My bariatric journey started 5 years ago in New Brunswick. I was recommended for surgery but was on a very long waiting list due to the fact there was only 1 surgeon at the time in the whole province. While I was waiting my personal life fell apart and I left my husband, moved back to Ontario, and once again started the process. I was ready to meet the surgeon when my job was eliminated and I again moved. My file was transferred but because it so long to get a family doctor, I had to start over. So here I am, I attended orientation in January 2016, met with nurse, pyscologist, physiotherapist, pharmacist and dietician in June, had my file go to surgeon in August, and fast forward, met Dr. Sullivan on September 22, 2016. So my pre-op appointment is October 24 at St. Joseph's Health Care in Toronto and surgery is November 15, 2016. I am both excited and nervous but I got this. I believe everything happens for a reason and I believe that if things had happened 5 years ago maybe I wouldn't have been as ready as I am now. I have been overweight my entire life. My mom, who never had a weight problem put me on my first diet at age 6, I believe she was embarrassed to have a "fat child". This lead to yo-yo dieting my entire life and very poor self esteem. I am currently weighing in at 288lbs but have been as heavy as 330lbs. I am so ready to be healthy again, to be able to run and play with my grandchildren and be able to see them grow up.
