John Husted

"UPDATE!! Today is April 11, 2011 and I want to pop in here to say that I am at goal and living a fantastic life. Thank you Dr Husted. I am pre-op, so my experience with him is limited so far. I have researched the notion of WLS for years and have always been impressed by Dr. Husted's creds.rnI did have some initial difficulty making first contact, but I will admit I did not use the telephone! I was trying to contact by e-mails. I finally found an e-mail address for Ellen Bell and by-passed Dr. Husted’s email address. That was on a Sunday and I actually heard back from Ellen that very day. She started the ball rolling for me. I will likely not have much further contact with Ellen since my insurance will cover ZIP. I will be self pay. Per Ellen’s, advice, I downloaded Dr. Husted’s new patient form, filled it out and sent it in along with a “Story of Me” letter. My next contact was from Carol who is the sweetest thing. She was calling to arrange my long distance telephone consultation. I preferred to meet in person and she said that was just fine. I travelled to KY for a face to face consultation. I found his office busy, but with a small town feeling. My husband and I were both comforted by our meeting with Carol and with Dr. Husted. I will tell you this, he never rushed me, he devoted his full attention to me and stayed as long as I kept asking questions. He has a kind and sincere demeanor. He is probably the first doctor (with one noted exception in MY STORY) who did not make me feel guilty and bad about myself. I was just plain nosy and asked Dr. Husted why he moved to such a small town and he explained how he loved small towns and that area of the country in particular and how the timing was just right in his family life to make a move. He said he wanted to live in a small town but he needed a big hospital to do his work and the new bariatric program in Somerset fit the bill. He lives in town near the hospital and rides his bike to work and everywhere else around town. He says he knows everybody and they know him. I began to get an inkling (my personal opinion, mind you) of why initial e-mail contact with him was difficult and why a few things are a little lacking in his web site: beyond his obvious surgical skills, Dr. Husted does not seem to be a high tech kind of guy. I kind of like that. I don’t know why Dr. Husted chose the bariatric field, but it is my impression that he truly cares about those of us who struggle and really just wants to help us the best way he can.rnRegards, Grammorn"
