2 YEARS!!!

May 26, 2009

Golly...Where does the time go!! 2 years-it sure doesn't seem it. It has been a wonderful time so far. I am at 147#, size 10 and very happy with that. Memorial weekend I rode my bike 28 miles on Sat. Not bad for the first time out. I usually walk 3-4 miles a day, at least 5 days a week.
Last post, I had broken my finger-had surgery, and 7 weeks off work cuz they didn't have light duty. I was off from July 18 to Sept 4. What a wonderful summer that was. I really had little to no pain--just limitations of my hand. I did get back on my motorcycle but sold it as I felt it was too big for me. I did get another- Yamaha 400 special which we are fixing up. I will ride again...just alittle hesitant but I want to get over that.
Another great thing in my life is passing the registry for my job. I do echocardiograms and am now registered--passed 2 nasty nasty tests and can now put RDCS after my name. So glad that's behind me.
One of my goals this summer is to attempt to waterski. (Think I can I break something and get the summer off again?)
I really like fruit now. That is something I didn't eat much of before. It is so good to take along an apple of orange to eat on a bike ride or after hiking. We have some wonderful bike/hike trails in our area.
As for my body, I guess it could be worse. I have not looked into plastic surgery but will probably within the next year. I would like a breast lift/reduction although I have gone from 44 DDD to 36 DD, they are not where they are supposed to be if you get my drift! Would also like a tummy tuck but not sure insurance would cover that. Guess I'll learn once I get to that point.
To those waiting surgery--DO IT--IT IS SOOOO WORTH IT. Find a good support group and start going NOW. You will get answers to questions you didn't know you had.
To those having surgery anniversaries--CONGRATULATIONS!
To my surgeons, staff, support group, surgical team--THANKS A MILLION!

just a bump in the road--not really it was gravel in my driveway that took me down on my motorcycle. Broke a bone in my hand-surgery and 3 screws later and I am working at getting my grip back so I can get back on the motorcycle... and bicycle...and a few other things. It's rather inconvenient but not much pain. People at work think this is a mid-life crisis I'm going thru... doing all this fun stuff. I say--it's all that stuff I couldn't do before my surgery. I am going to a water park tomorrow and I'll beat the kids to the slides and tubes for sure! Hope you are all having a good summer.

Been busy!! Playing!! So much to do, so little time. Riding my motorcycle, kayaking, swimming, walking.... I just realized that I never really set a goal but have reached where I want to be. I have never been about the numbers. Just wanted to look good, feel good and I am here. I weight about 138, down total 119#. I was buying size 12 clothes cuz that's what I wore in high school--figured that was "perfection" for my size. I kept having to take in the waist. Then the other day I thought, I'll bet I could fit into a size 10. Well--that is the new "perfection" for me!! Can't remember wearing that size. I did have my 1 year check up. Labs are good. Only on 1 BP med. No CPAP. Feels sooo good. And I absolutely LOVE riding my motorcycle. If you would have told me 2 years ago what I would be doing now, I would not have believed you!! I love this life. Best of luck to all starting this journey. It is sooo worth it!

Weight has pretty much stabilized until this past week with the flu. I have not been in the 130s since high school. Pretty amazing. I wear size 12 and med and have fit into a 10. I feel wonderful and am looking forward to motorcycle class in 3 weeks--(Pray for me) I have never been the driver--only the rider. I am so excited!!!!  Looking to a very very good summer. Just hope it doesn't go too fast.  Everyone keep safe and eat well.

My motorcycle permit that is... and signed up for riding classes. So excited about this.

My friend asked me the other day if I felt others treated me different as a "normal" size person vs obese. I had to say yes. Those who knew me before treat me the same but I do notice people seem to talk to me more....or maybe it is ME talking more to them.   I didn't have to deal with men flirting before. Even women seem more friendly, accepting toward me. OR maybe it is all me~

I am so proud of my surgeon and his staff and the follow up care I received/am receiving. I work in a hospital and there are many employees who have had this surgery. Most have gone to Columbus for their surgery, I went to Akron. I have had several people comment on how much HEALTHIER I look than whose who went elsewhere.  I can't help but give credit to Dr. Dan and his staff. Thank you so much for this gift.

Weight loss is slowing, along with the hair loss. My hair is thin but I started with thick hair. I can't imagine what I would look like if I STARTED with thin hair. At my hair appt the other day, my hairdresser said there is alot of new growth. Yea! So I'm here to say, don't worry if you are losing a good deal of hair. It WILL return. I am down 108 pounds and in a size 12 jeans. I weigh 149 and if I end up at this weight, I will be happy. I am not into numbers and I feel good, look "normal" and can do anything I want. OH--my son is buying a motorcycle just for ME to ride. I have never riden one before but have a friend with a Harley and he said he would buy this so I could ride with her. He's the best. I did tell him I would go in half with him so that if I like it, he can't get rid of it--I would buy him out. So now I have to get my temp motorcycle license and take a riding course. It will be a great summer. My last labs showed my cholesterol to be 220 on no meds--may need to take something but I have a lot of family history of cholesterol and it is much lower than before surgery.  I will try to post some picture. I haven't really had my picture taken much but I will get some. BIG difference.  Good luck to all awaiting for surgery.

Whoo hoo!!  After stalling out for a good week at 99 1/2, I finally made it to 100# gone!!!! What a feeling. Can't believe the difference in my body. I am a bit saggy--or deflated but no complaints here. I would much rather be deflated than inflated like I was. Size 14 jeans--med tops. I had a health workup at work and my waist is 32"!!  What a good Christmas present this is.

Yeah! Hit 80# today. Weight was 257--now 177. Was size 24ish--now 16. Cholesterol was 300+, 240+ with medicine, now---128.  Feel GOOOOOOD! Riding my new bike--16 miles today. Did I say I FEEL GOOOOOD?!!!!!

One more thing-the hospital I work for has exercise incentives every couple of months. We just finished bike riding 100 miles. I was one of those who completed 100 miles and was put into a drawing. I won a year's membership to Superfitness!! Woohooo!! I am a lucky dog!! I am blessed.

Saw Dr Dan today. Weight is 191--down 66. I feel good. Have gotten sick a couple times but was my own fault. I don't tolerate chicken cooked certain ways so I get rid of it rather than suffer. Blood work has come back good all around. Am wearing a size 18 jeans and NOT TIGHT!. I have been taking in all my scrubs (since I sew) but it getting more and more difficult. I will probably not take in many more, just make new. It's getting to the point where I would have to move pockets over and raise the hem for them to look good.  Support group is great. We have a good bunch of people so willing to help each other. If you are not in one, find one. It is well worth the time.

I am at the point where people actually notice now. I love it. I love hearing that I look younger! My rings are falling off and my watch is loose. I have been swimming and last week went kayaking. I thought it would be a lot more strenuous than it was. Very fun!! Will add that to my firsts with many more to follow. I have been taking the stairs whenever I get the chance and don't get out of breath. What a change for me!

Good luck to all going to surgery this month--it is soo worth it!
