Hello there! My name is Laura and my weight gain start when I was about 34 years old.  I was 105lbs during JR. High and High school, got married a couple of years later went up to 135lbs.  Stayed there until my early 30's.  Funny thing, I gained while being more active than I had before (very active in teens, lots of walking) and eating less.  I had 2 kids, hubby, college 5 days a week, part time job 2 nights a week, church activities 3 days a week.  After starting college I had no time for breakfast or lunch.  Then I ate supper around 6 or so.  Gained about 80lbs in less than a year.  Went to doctors and they wouldn't believe me when I said that I was eating less and moving around more.  I think back to the thyroid tests they did and realize that I was borderline hypothyroid. Still in "normal limits".  Recently my hair started thining and falling out, which is too bad since my hair is thin anyways.  Again doctors found my thyroid to be in normal limits although my hair was falling out and I was having a hard time even losing a few pounds.  A beautician showed me the back of my hair, it had gaps in it as if I had let kids practice on me with scissors!  I went to a doctor that was known to be easy to get prescriptions from and he prescribed 100mcgs of Synthroid.  My weight gain stopped, I had more energy, my heart palpations came to a halt and my hair was thicker than ever before!  But I had no clue that I was suppose to have started at a lower dose and then eased up.  Suppose to have regular blood tests to keep track.  About a year later (recently) I became super tired and my heart was racing.  Then I had buzzing in my ears.  I went to my regular doc and he took blood tests. My thyroid numbers were in the HYPER range then!  I never told him that I had to visit another doctor for thyroid meds.  Dumb me, huh? I've been off the pills for around 5 months now and my hair is thinning again, tired, achey, gaining more weight, blah blah blah.  I found a doctor a couple of hours away that is reputed to be a very good thyroid doctor and will LISTEN to you and not just judge you by your blood tests.

I need to lose this weight not just because my bones hurt, my back hurts, my feet hurt, I can't rest, depression is bad, disgusted with myself and my weight.  But I have 3 leaking valves and will need surgery in the next few years.  I need to be in the best health I can be in for that.  I want to be able to keep up with my grandkids, I want to travel, I want to get my business off the ground!  I need to deal with bankers and I cringe thinking of them sitting across from me with thoughts of "HOW CAN WE LEND THIS FATSO ANY MONEY?? SHE CAN'T EVEN KEEP THE FOOD OUT OF HER MOUTH, MUCH LESS HANDLE THE AMOUNT SHE ASKING FOR!! UGLY FAT BLOB!!"

How cruel people can be.  I was swimming in a public pool one time, I weighed 135lbs at the time and some young kid called me a hippo.  I look at pictures of me from back then and I wonder how in the world could he think that?? Ok so I had the JLo booty back then, nothing wrong with that now, huh?? LOL!!  I bet he's fat and bald himself now! HA!  *sigh* revenge comes to those that wait LOL!!  Bad side is that I'm really fat now.

About this journey:  I needed to lose weight, like a lot of folks and read about Obesity Help.  I googled it, read all the forums and decided to stick around the Lapband forum.  A lot of people have come and gone.  I enjoy meeting the new but really miss the old.  I try to impart their wisdom to the new ones here.  I know I'm not banded yet, but I can tell others what I've read on here, all of the advice given the past few years.  Anyways after finally settling for Lapband I researched what needed to be done to get my insurance to approve me.  I started a 6 month diet, travelled 100 miles around trip to my cardiogist because he was willing to help me and the cost was only $15 per visit.  I had a great car good on gas at that time.  I finally got everything together and was going to send it in when a new policy came out at hubby's job; NO COVERAGE FOR ANY WLS, FOR NO REASON, NO HOW, NO WAY SO YOU ARE JUST SCR*WED!!  So now I've been trying to get bills paid off and money together to pay for my band.  I don't need to get too bills going right now because of how much money I'll be out when I need my surgery for my heart done.  Trying to be cautious here!  Anyways, I'm looking looking looking for that MONEY TREE!!
