Karen, My pcp did not approve of bariatric surgery either, but he did support MY decision to have surgery. He thoroughly went over the reasons why I should not have surgery, wanted to know if I understood what I would be getting into, but ultimately, he stood by MY decision. Now he is so happy with me because almost two years later, I am no longer diabetic, my blood pressure is 122/72, I no longer take pills for my arthritic knees, and I am the healthiest I have ever been. Remind him that you need his support, not his permission to start on the road to a healthier life. Burni Kay

I have been working with my primary care physician who does not approve of bariatric surgery. I need ideas of how to work this out so I can be referred for surgery.
