THANKSGIVING DAY 2008

Dec 01, 2008

Well, I sure did accomplish  my initial goal ... had a family photo(s) taken that I am happy with... I didn't even recoil.   BMI @ about 25.  When I take the clothes out of the dryer to fold...I can hardly believe these jeans are mine... a 14 is so tiny as compared to a 22 ... and still roomy @ that !!

Very happy with where I am at with weight but will continue to lose with diet & walking.  I fancy dance  class in the Fall.  I am not a very photogenic person and I feel that the most recent photos tend to make me bigger & saggier than I am in person now..which is a bummer.   Nonetheless, I still look a world better than Sept. 2007.  I never leave the house now in any outfit that does not flatter my body...I tuck shirts in, wear belts and form fitting clothes.  Dr. Mecenas was pleased at my 3-month appt.(down more 30 lbs.)  but is very adamant about daily exercise.  Most days I do walk 3-4 miles but some days I just have no time left after work.  I have noticed more scalp hair falling out every day now ..just as predicted in support group...not a big deal but a bit gross

Well I went to the Mission and the Salvo. this week and found so many great designer clothes that I can practically wear a different outfit every day now.  It has been very hot and humid lately ... but I have to say that it does not bother me as much as a year ago.  Wearing tank tops and underwire bras are much cooler, not to mention prettier.  It was exactly a year ago today says my daughter, Kay, that those incriminantly June Jam photos were taken that started me on this journey as of Sept. 07'.  Now at 181 to 184 wgt. range.  It's funny how wgt. bounces up and down.  This is was what always lead to my downfall with Weight Watchers and other plans... cus it always made me think that I failed.  They really do not make this reality out to be acceptable somehow...but it is so.  I have not weighed this little since the 1980's !!!!!!!

I completed the Rochester Lilac Festival 5-k at a walk last weekend,  my first event.  Spent the weekend with my daughter, Liz.  Scales are at 185 now.  Also went on a Marshall/T-J Max endurance marathon...made 6 trips through the dressing rooms fully loaded (8 garments) and survived the dressing room Nazi-ladies there (ever been to these stores ya' know what I'm talking about).

Returned to work April 22.  I have not told all there exactly what I had done but they sure do notice the weight loss and "You look great" , says it all.  Down to (depending on whose scales)  the low 190's wgt. range ... which is something that I haven't experienced in at least 15 years.  Wearing sz. 16 jeans very comfortably as compared to a snug 22 last Sept.  I enjoy taking the Gus, the dog, on a 3-4 mile walks along country dirt roads 5-6 x a week.  I can wear those micromesh moisture-wicking ahtletic shorts & tops that don't even come in plus sizes ... what a difference... much cooler.  I've done more clothes shopping in the past month than I have in the last 7 years.  TJ Max & Wally-World ( walmart) sale racks are my favorites!  Yep, I'm not too proud to admit it.  A friend suggested trying the Open door Mission because she finds designer clothes there very inexpensively ... so that may be next!  Now the clothes bought in Dec. 07 are very baggy & in need of new homes.
Eating a mushy diet.,, cottage cheese, oatmeal, mayo-slathered tunafish, etc.  Sometimes I can eat scrambled eggs and other times they get returned ... same thing with New England clam chowder.  Italian wedding soup almost killed me...just kidding.. but the returns were most uncomfortable.  I can gulp fluid as I need to stay hydrated though.

My abdominal 'tenderness'  is eased greatly with childrens liquid ibuprofen I discovered (works better than lortabs for sure).    Walking much better.  Tolerating full liquids.  Accompanied my son, Andy to the airport to catch his flight back to Camp Geiger...a bittersweet moment as I know his becoming a Marine is one of the best things he has ever done and he is so happy.  Glad he could be here for my surgery.

Much more tender in the abdomen over the past 2 days...feels like gas both inside and outside my intestines.  Lortabs will make me sleep but really do not touch this type of discomfort.  Farts are the best!  I went to the Oakdale Mall with Mike, my spouse, to walk as it was rainy outside and made a full circle but did not fair so well when Mike would stop and I would have to stand idle to look at something for more than a minute.  I feel like I was kicked by a horse with big hooves.      Also my 1st day back on full liquids.  Trying to get 50gms of protein is an all day project! My post-op dry weight today is 212.

Discharged home today after Roun en Y on Mar. 25.  No complications ... a nice hospital experience at CMC.  I find that I am a little more sore today than the previous 2 days.  Walking without problem, even went to the dinosaur museum with my IV pole while still an inpatient.
