My name is Lisa and I am a 44 year old, wife and mother of two beautiful kids.  As a child, I was raised chubby because it was beautiful??  As I grew up as weigh more than my classmates and it was hard because they call me names.  When I turned 13 my parents told me that I needed to lose weight and I honestly did not know how.  My high school years were a lot of fun as I was well accepted by classmates and friends.  After my first year of college I decided to lose weight and started with accupuncutre.  I went from 186lbs to 160 and I looked great, but I did not know how to keep the weight off.  So, I gained the pounds and lost plus some more.  At age 22 my weight was 206.  I was planning to get married, and then again I decided to lose weight.   I lost 20 pounds, which I gained shortly after the honeymoon.  I cannot tell you how many times I lost 20 pounds and gained it back, and the sad thing is that I always gained more than the pounds I had lost.  In 1991 I decided that I wanted to feel and look great and went from 232 to 160lbs.  I was able to keep the weigh loss until I became pregnant in 1993. So, you can imagine, now is 2009 and I have lost weight so many times, but now my body does not feel the same as before.  My back and knees hurt, I have high blood pressure, under active thyroid, and I am unhappy with my looks.  I do not lose weight as easily, when I was on my 20 and 30s.  I feel that the person I look in the mirror is not Lisa, is somebody else.

For a long time I have thought about weight loss surgery, but I was too afraid of the outcome with all the risks that are involved.  I have thought about the Lap-Band Surgery for the last five years, and decided to give it a chance.  I am very blessed to get my approval from Blue Cross Blue Shield (FEP BLUE).  It only took one day to get a response from the insurance and my surgery was scheduled for 10/02/2009.  Unfortunately, it had to be postponed, because my hematologist needs to do one more testing for Von Williebrand's Disease that is only done by appointment in Fairfax Hospital.  Now I have to wait until Oct. 20th for the testing and another week for the results.  Now my surgery is scheduled for 11/25/2009 the day before Thanksgiving.  I cannot wait to this date.

I have decided not to wait for my surgery to lose weight.  I have started to eat healthy to limit my carbs to 50mg per day and my protein intake to 100grams, which is exactly what my bariatric dietician prescribed for me for the rest of my life.  So far, I am doing great.  In a month I have been able to lose 15 lbs.  Is not massive weight loss, but the way I see it, these are 15 lbs. that I will never see again:).
