I had a Dr's appt. today at 10:45 am for Dr. Spivak to pull my drain tube out, i was really painless. i have a month month follow up in mid Nov.
Since my RNY surgery on Oct. 9th 2007 i have been taken off most of my med for Diabetes, before the surgery i was taking 6 pills at night and 1 pill every am for Diabetes. i'm down to 1 pill per day in the evening and of course still taking my blood pressure meds.
eventually once the weight starts coming off, i should taken off the blood pressure meds as well, i am 12 days post op and have lost 19 lbs.

Going crazy staying at home, i been getting my walking in by walking in circles in my garage, so finally i talked my wife into taking me to Wal-mart
so we visited the store and bought a few things and i walked around for a long while.
we came back home for a few hours and then i got another treat, we went to Sam's club and bought a few things and i walked more.
then pain has is bearable now, i'm trying to get myself off of the pain medication. i can walk alone now, rarley need help to get up out of the chair or bed or toilet .....lol
i have a Dr's appt. with my Diabetic blood specialist today at noon, he wanted to see me one week post op to do blood work on me.
tomorrow i have an appt. to see Dr. Spivak he should be taking out the drain tube today, which i will so happy.
Oct. 12th 2007 (Released from Hospital)

i would have been released on Thursday, but i was running a low grade fever the day before, so they kept me an extra day.
the doc came in around 1130 am and said i could be released today, my wife and i were happy. of course it takes at least a few hours to get you ready to leave. by the time i left on Friday, i was taken off all Diabetec meds but one, and still on a blod pressure med............this is wonderful, because i was taking 6 pills at night for diabetes and one pill every morning, so to go from 7 pills a day down to one is wonderful.
Oct. 9th 2007 (Day of surgery)

We woke up around 4am, had to be at the hospital by 6am. my wife and i stopped and picked up my mom and then on the Park Plaza Hospital.
when we arrived at the hospital we parked and went and checked in and signed some papers etc.
then we were sent to the waiting area, we stayed there a few minutes and then my name was called. they gave me some instructions on what to do next. they took me and my family to a room and i changed into a gown,
we waited there for a while and then they came and got me, they took us to another waiting room and within a few minutes they called me back.
i was given a bed to lay in and the nurse started the I.V. etc and of coursed asked me one hundred questions.within a few minutes my wife came back and stayed there with me, it tool like an hour after that when the nurse told my wife it was time.
all i remeber after that was waking up in severe pain, i could barley talk. my wife said i was saying "my stomach hurts" several times and it did so bad.
within 4 hours they had me up and walking around the hospital floor, it hurt like heck, everything after sugery was a big painful blur, i remember hearing my family and friends voices in the background

4pm started drinking this stuff that cleans you out, Yuck it tasted like crap..........it took everything i had to drnk the whole 4 liters by the end of the night. it took like an hour and a half and it started working on me.
I never want to drink this stuff again.

We called Dr. Spivaks office to confirm they received the test results, and yes they did, we got a date of Oct. 9th 2007 (Tuesday) we have to be at Park Plaza Hospital between 6am - 7am
We set up an appt. tp speak with the Dr. before the surgery date, it's on Friday Oct. 5th 2007 at 2:30pm.
we just wanted to go over some last minute details etc.
once there they will give us a firm time for the surgery.
we received a letter from Dr. Spivaks office giving us instructions on the liquid diet the night before surgery, also received a RX for the stuff you have to start drinking the evening before at 4pm (cleans you out)
will update with more once i get more info.
Oct. 1st 2007 H. Pylori Test Results

My wife called the upper G.I. doc this am, we talked to her nurse, she unoffically gave us the test results (Negative) but we had to wait for the Dr. to call us this afternoon to tell us.
Just out of the blue Dr. Spivaks nurse called my wife and asked what tests we had left, she told the nurse that we were waiting on the results from the upper G.I. we should have them today.
The nurse said if the tests came back negative, they wanted to do the surgery this Weds. the 3rd 2007, but because of a death in the family, and i have to tie up a few loose ends at work, we can not schedule for this week.
around 5:00pm this evening, the phone rang and it was the Dr. with the news we have been waiting for, she asked us for Dr. Spivaks fax number and said she was going to fax the results right over.
We should have a firm date tomorrrow Oct. 2nd 2007 as soon as there office opens my wife is going to call and see if they can schedule for the second week in Oct. 2007.
i will continue to update as soon as i get a firm date.
Sept. 27th 2007 Final Pre op Test Upper G.I.

Today is my final pre op test (upper G.I) checking for the H. Polori Virus, my apt. was at noon today, we arrived at the doc's office around 11:45am, we checked in and signed paperwork etc,
about 30 minutes later the nurse called me back and explained a few things to me, they took my temp. blood pressure and blood sugar level.
after this they took me to another room that had the stretcher in it and asked me to put on this gown and lye on the stretcher, this took a few minutes and then my wife came in and sat with me.
a few minutes later the nurse came in and started the I.V. etc. then around 20 minutes later, they wheeled me into another room and i talked to the person who was putting me under, along with the dr.
they hooked the oxygen hoses to my nose and placed this plastic looking thing into my mouth so i would not chew on their camera. it was just a few minutes after that, i was out like a light.
all i can remember after that was waking up in the recovery room and them saying it was over and someone asked me if i wanted something to drink.
we only stayed in the recovery room a short time and then my wife came in and helped me get dressed, a little after that they asked us to wait across the hall from there and the Doc. would come in and talk to us about the outcome.
it was only a short time and the doc came out told us everything looked normal, and she gave us the pics of what she took while she did the upper G.I.
The doc also told us that the H. Polori results would be in within 3-7 days, once her office got them she would call us and give us the test results and fax them to us, so we could fax to Dr. Spivak who is performing the RNY on me, once we have all this taken care of we can get a date for Surgery.
so far this process has taken 3 months from the time we attended our first free WLS consulation and one one with Dr. Spivak I know it will be worth the wait, i'm excited and nervous all rolled up in one.
I will continue to update once i receive the H. Polori test results from doc's office.
Sept. 20th 2007 Stress Test Results

My appt. this morning was at 8:50 AM, we got there early and of course they were running behind like one hour, First the Med. student came and talked to us and said everything came out Normal.
she took my pulse etc, and asked me a few questions and said the Cardio Dr. would be here in a few minutes.
The doc came in and said i was cleared for surgery and that i was a low risk. keep
Doc said that he would give us a copy of the test results to fax over to the Dr. who is doing my RNY.
I have one more test to do next week on Sept. 27th (upper G.I.) and that should do it, my wife and I are hoping for an Oct. date for the RNY.
Will update next week once the G.I. is done. keep your fingers crossed for me.
Sept. 17th Stress Test Part # 2

well my second part was basically like the first part, less the stressing my heart part.
really all they did was place in I.V. in my hand, shot some medicine in my hand, told me to come back in one hour and eat breakfast before i come back.
So we did all that, we came back up to the room once more and they asked me to lye down on this weird looking bed and i had to lye still for 22 minutes.
I go back this Thursday Sept. 20th 2007 for the Cardio Doc to read the stress test results.
