March 20th, 2008. Almost 3 months out!
Mar 20, 2008
All of my tests came back negative. No odd stuff going on. Strangely enough, around that time I started feeling better! No more nausea or vomiting!
I have figured out that I just can't handle chicken, and I can't eat as much as I am "supposed to" at this stage in my diet. C'est la vie!
I feel great and I am doing well on my vitamins! I admit that my protein intake has been hit or miss, but my hair has stayed on my head and my blood work continues to be good.
Most of my nutrition comes from protein bars, yogurt, cheese and fruit. Ground beef is the only animal protein I can handle.
My weight loss has slowed, but not stalled. I am taking up exercising to speed up the loss.
Another update soon!

4 weeks or so out...
Feb 08, 2008
Well I am over a month out. I lost 28 pounds my first month! I am having trouble with nausea and vomiting, which is not allowing my diet to advance as the surgeon would like it to. I am still stuck on a stage 3 soft foods type of diet.
I am struggling to get all of my protein and other nutrition in on a daily basis. Today I had a gallbladder ultrasound to rule out problems with it, and Monday I have a swallow study to rule out strictures. I hope that all will be fine and it is just my body adjusting to its new anatomy.
I will be sure to blog what my results are!

Normal?

Food is going well. I am still on a pureed diet, but I am finding ways "around" it like scrambled eggs and cottage cheese instead of liquid chicken *blah*! Protein shakes are a little rough, but I have found creative ways to make my protein into a yummy snack. (Adding fruit, splenda and ice!)
I am down 15 pounds already! Wow. This surgery is the greatest thing I have ever done for myself!
4 days post op
Jan 04, 2008
I am at home now and my sister has gone back to Colorado (she had a bedside vigil while I was in the hospital and my first night home). I miss her a lot, but my fiance is doing very well. He is being sweet and getting me my broth and water.
Speaking of broth and water... I HATE BROTH AND WATER! If one more person offers me broth I may kill someone! LOL. I called my surgeon's office today to beg them to let me have some yogurt or something and they said no! I will just have to wait until Monday (7 days post-op).
I am sure things will get better over time.
Pain level = 2 - 5.
Gas pain = bad
vomiting = fairly frequently
:(
Better days ahead..

The night before surgery...
Dec 30, 2007
It's almost midnight and I am clinging to my diet snapple knowing that in a half hour I will go NPO. Visions of horror dance in my head, keeping me up, no sleep for this red-head. (Sorry about the rhymes, with Christmas being so close in the past I cant help myself...lol!)
Will my surgery get canceled for some unknown reason? Will the doc be ok with the fact that I did not lose that much weight on my "pre op diet"? Will I make it through surgery? What will the recovery be like? Will I have a lot of pain?
All of these months I have been thinking about the future (after GBS) and my future is very bright! But on this eve of surgery, I am just now remembering the actual surgery and all the unknown that goes with it.
Well I am off to try to sleep. I am sure I will be writing an update from home soon....post op and doing great!
Until then....
I'm Official!

Well things are moving right along here. I am for sure having surgery on Dec 31st 2007! I have my pre-op appt tomorrow (12/20) and instructions for a "prep" the day before surgery.
I can't believe this is happening! I am so happy! It feels like a dream! I have been shopping for vitamins, small plates, protein mix, baby food etc...
Here we go!
Approved and date scheduled!

Moving along....slowly. Post #2: November 17, 2007

After a battle with my PCP's nurse (she claimed that the doctor's "dictation" was taking a long time) I finally got confirmation that my packet was headed to the "authorization and referral" department this Friday (11/16/07).
I was disappointed to hear that the approval process can take weeks. This means that I may have to cancel my Dec. 4th appointment with the surgeon's PA. (If I don't have prior authorization approval, I will have to pay for the appointment!)
I never thought with a Nov 5th PCP appointment (and my doctor's enthusiasm) that my packet would have just gone in yesterday. Of course I am frustrated. But I am confident that I WILL get approved!
