Hi :)  My name is Heather, and I am a 33 yr. old wife and mother.  My husband is currently stationed in Afghanistan with the U.S. Army.   I have 2 beautiful daughters.  Savannah is 14 and Averi is 2 (lol, just a small age gap!)  Needless to say, our baby was a wonderful surprise!   I have been overweight since I hit puberty.  I was always a tiny little thing until about the time I hit my teenage years.  I weighed about 200 lbs when I got pregnant with my first daughter at 19 and after I had her, I weighed somewhere near 250.  My weight fluctuated up and down from 250-230-250 lbs over the years until right before I got pregnant with my youngest.  I had dropped back down to about 210.  While pregnant with Averi, I developed gestational diabetes, which I never had with my first pregnancy, and I had other problems also.  During Averi's birth, she got stuck in the birth canal and she asperated fluid and she was in a life or death situation, so the Dr.  basically had to just yank her out (there is really no other way to put it, lol) which caused her to suffer from a brachial plexus injury.  She was paralyzed in her left arm for the first 3 months of her life and we did not think she would recover, but she did!  She has recovered so well that no one can ever tell that she had an injured arm and we are so thankful that she is healing so well!  I believe that if I had been at a healthy weight before and during my pregnancy, Averi would not have been in danger during her birth.  I believe that I owe it to my children to be the healthiest mother that I can be and I believe  that having this surgery will be the tool that will help me succeed in that.
