Walking with less pain.

Aug 30, 2009

Carrying around excess weight is tough on the legs, ankles and feet.  In fact, lower extremity pain has been slowing down my pace during a walk.  One of the battles I have been trying to win is with plantar fasciitis. I stretch out my Achilles tendons at the bathroom sink when I brush my teeth and shave each morning. That helps. But I have also added very firm Dr. Scholls arch supports to my shoes. That helps as well. I'm not pain free yet.. But as I lose weight, I'm sure I'll get there.

Tied my shoe today!

Aug 30, 2009

This is something only people in this group can appreciate.
This morning I shopped at four different stores and at one store, I noticed my shoe was untied. Just a few months ago, that would have been a major cause of angst and embarrassment. I would have needed to find a sturdy place to sit and strain while leaning over and trying to reach and tie my shoe laces.   But no, I leaned over and tied my shoe...right there in the produce department.  I was so happy. I looked around and couldn't understand why the other customers weren't giving me a standing ovation.

Also today I cut went for a 45 minute walk and then cut the lawn.

I also only ate 921 Calories and felt ok.  With the exception of egg whites, the rest of the food was Slim Fast Low Carb liquid and three servings of milk and EAS Whey protein powder.

I thought I'd try the liquid protein diet at least once a week, just to see what it's like.  I think I will lower my daily caloric intake to 1000 Cals. I'll let you know how it works.

Emergency food

Aug 28, 2009

I usually carry a high nutrient pouch of protein powder with me in case I need some energy. Today, I went outside my normal routine and wanted to take a walk, but couldn't make it home for dinner. I mixed the powder with some water and had enough energy to take a walk. I included it in my daily food plan. I was over by 25 calories for the day. But I won't stress about it.

A solemn reminder.

Aug 26, 2009

I wanted to put this into writing just in case I ever forget where I came from... and don't wish to return to.

I have been living with fear all my life. Fear of failure. I never told people when I was dieting because I feared what they would think of my character if I gained weight instead of losing it.  The solution: DON'T DIET.  Just eat away and gain unhealthy pound after pound. Eventually I got to a point where the only hope I had was that I could die a quick death. Maybe from a heart attack in my sleep. Yes... it was a selfish way of living. It ignored the feelings of my family and those who loved me. But the prospect of having WLS has given me another kind of hope. And I hope that the trials and tribulations recounted by the good members of this board can reinforce my belief that I can never go back to that old, destructive lifestyle.

Under 1000 cals

Aug 25, 2009

I miscalculated my calories yesterday. I overestimated the weight of a chicken breast. As a result, I ingested about 100 fewer calories than I planned. So far I haven't felt weak or light headed, but I  need to be careful. Although I must admit... I am concerned about the prospect of maintaining a normal lifestyle during the 800 calorie liquid diet two weeks before surgery.

I recommend a colonosopy

Aug 23, 2009

Of course, check with your Doctor first. But I never had one until now. I am 56 years old, and have trouble with constipation.  Could I have cancer?  i wondered that for about five years. But I never sought a colonoscopy because frankly, at 500 pounds, I figured that no doctor or anesthesiologist would get near me because of the risk  Even when I got down to 355 lbs, I was still reluctant to have the procedure. Mostly because I was afraid they would find something and it would ruin my chances of getting RNY surgery. Well, I finally did it. Other than drinking the gallon of laxative the day before the procedure. It went fine. No major problems. What a releif.
