It REALLY has been awhile!!!

Mar 30, 2010

Hard to believe it has been one year.  March 30th 2009...the day my life changed for the better.  I have not lost as much as I hoped by now...but I am down 75lbs, and still losing slowly.  I feel great and could not be happier.  I'm looking forward to summer activities.  Bike riding, jogging and the new one I want to try...kayaking.  Thanks to all of you for your support, and I'll do my best to be on here more often.  I could not have done this without your support, advice and encouragement.  Here's to all of you...THANKS!!!  Ed

It has been awhile!!

Jul 16, 2009

Things are going well.  Had my 2nd fill at the end of May.  Lost 15 lbs from the first fill.  Yea.  I went back two weeks ago for my 3rd fill, and had only lost 2 lbs.  I knew it would level off soon, and the nurse agreed because I had lost 60 lbs so far.  She did get a bit, shall we say, aggressive with this fill.  I've dropped about 4 lbs so far, so I'm happy.  Still trying to keep up with activities.  I was away for 3 weeks, so the gym was out, but I did start to get out a jog again.  It feels great!!  I am slowly working up my endurance.  Speaking of that...I need to get to the gym now!!  Looking forward to hitting the 70 lb mark.  Hope you all are having a GREAT week.

Lovin' That Band of Mine!!

May 10, 2009

So I got up this morning and hit the scales...and I hit the 50lb mark.  WOOHOO!!!  So I celebrated by digging through the closet, and trying on clothes I have not been able to wear in a few years.  I know what your thinking...old clothes?  Well, I was always hopeful, and no there was not a leisure suit!  I continued my celebration by buying a new shirt from a store that did not have big and tall included in the name.  That felt really good.  It all ended with a pumped up workout.  I feel really motivated right now.  Thanks for all of your continued support...you guys are great!!

First Fill

May 03, 2009

Had my first fill on Friday.  It was pretty darn easy.  I am feeling a bit of restriction, but not as much as Friday.  After leaving the office, it took me almost 3 hours to drink a 20 ounce protein drink.  Everything continues to go well.  I go back in one month for fill no. 2.  It is kind of fun right now digging into my slightly older clothes to find things that fit.  I'll pulled out a pair of jeans that were tight last fall, now I can swim in them.  Still getting to the gym, don't always like going, but I'm always happy that I did.

Hope you all have a great week!!

4 Weeks since surgery

Apr 27, 2009

I feel great.  I am asking myself why did it take so long to do this??!!  Who cares, I'm just glad I did it!!  So, I'm down 40 lbs since starting the pre op diet, YEA, and I am starting to notice a difference.  My clothes really are letting me know good things are happening.  I attended a banquet tonight...my 1st encounter with a meal I could not control.  It went well.  I had the chicken breast, a very small salad (two months ago I would have been crying about how small it was), green beans and a sample of the mousse.  I left food on the plate, and some of the dessert...this would NEVER have happened before.  I felt full and satisfied.  All in all, it was not as big a deal as I was making it out to be.

I go in Friday for my first fill.  I'm really excited.  I can't wait to see how things will be in a year.  Hope you all are well!!  Thanks for all your support!!

Halfway through week3

Apr 15, 2009

I really feel like I'm back to normal.  I started hitting the gym last week.  My plan is to get there 4 times a week...it has been nice to get back.  Overall I'm feeling really good.  I had my follow up appointment on Monday, and I'm down 34lbs YEA!!  All is well, and I was told I could begin soft foods.  So I ran right to my local hang and got some baked salmon.  I was great, but I felt like I ate alot...not physically, but mentally.  As I went home I kept asking myself "Was that too much?"  I didn't feel much restriction, but it was so much more food then I've had to eat in the past month, so I guess that is good.  I was satisfied, and I know I would have ate alot more a few months ago.

My first fill is on May 1st.  I'm looking forward to it.  I just need to keep myself in check...I'm starting to feel like I'm getting greedy.  I'm very excited about loosing weight, but I want to make sure I eat enough to stay healthy, and not cut back too much.  Hope you all are doing well, and thanks for the support.

Week one!!

Apr 06, 2009

The first week has gone very well.  I finally feel comfortable getting plenty of water.  I've been out of town for a few days, and have not had a problem staying on the diet while out of town.  Most of the soreness is gone, and have not taken pain meds for 4 or 5 days.  Just a little swollen around my port, and it is a bit tender.

I'm looking forward to the next few weeks.

All is good!!

Apr 01, 2009

Well, surgery went well.  Felt pretty good Monday evening.  Drank lots of water and walked around the house and yard.  Yesterday I was a bit more sore, but not bad.  I slept more yesterday than I did Monday.  Today has been go.  Just trying to adjust to the new lifestyle.  Had some purred oatmeal this morning...that was OK.  Was not in the mood for lunch.  Did a protein drink for a snack, then had some pureed pork and some mashed potatoes for dinner.  I now know what you all mean by the foamies or slimies, or what ever you call it.  Had no problem keeping it down though.  I guess I'll just keep pressing forward and see what tomorrow brings...all good so far!!

Here we are!!

Mar 29, 2009

So...it is the night before surgery.  I've got everything ready, and other than some light cleaning, I'm all done.  My house cleaning this weekend has turned into spring cleaning.  That's good...it kept me busy.  My house has not been this clean in awhile...but there is more I can do.  I plan on doing these things next week.  I have that week off, and hopefully after a week of taking it easy, I'll feel up to it.  The pre-op has gone well, although in my hustle today...I was not watching the clock and missed my snacks...oddly enough, I did not feel hungry.  According to the scale this morning, I down 20 lbs...WOW !

To all of you who have sent well wishes, support and offer advice...THANK YOU!!  I'll be a member of the "Band" tomorrow...kind of funny to say that since I've spent career as a musician and now I teach band . I can't thank you all enough.  So...that said, I'll talk to you all in a day or so after I'm done.  Thanks again.

Week 2 going well

Mar 25, 2009

Well, I'm well into week 2, and all looks good.  I hit the 15 lbs mark this morning...yea!!  The anesthesiologist called last night to ask a few medical questions, and seems to think all is OK.  He said my blood work was fine, and my EKG looked normal.  That part is real good news to me.

So, now it is just get things ready for a new lifestyle.  I've been cleaning out the pantry, and throwing lots of stuff away.  It feels good.  I'm still not nervous, actually in some ways I can't believe that it is only 5 days until surgery.  Thanks for all the support and kind words of encouragement you guys have offered, I'm sure I'll be asking lots of questions of you "experienced banders!!"

That's all for now...I hope everyone is having a GREAT week.
