My Story...

Hmm!  Let's see, I was married very young and had my first baby at 16 years old.  I gained 110 pounds during this pregnancy and thus began my "FAT" life.  I was never really thin but in my early teens probably weighed around 145-155.  By the time Michelle was born, I weighed a whopping 255 pounds.  I had Gestational Diabetes throughout the pregnancy and at that time, they said there was NO link to "regular" diabetes.  *This would prove to be incorrect - many years down the road.  So, my daughter was born & weighed in around 10 pounds.  I lost 35 pounds the morning she was born so I reasoned to myself that I wasn't really "that fat"...  It didn't help that I was in a stressful marriage (drug abuser & alcoholic) so I would find myself eating to pacify my nerves or just to make myself feel better.  Two years after my daughter, my son was born and I was again back on the "FAT" roller coaster.  It has been an up/down ride for many years but last year, on a plane ride home, I saw a 60-Minutes special on Weight Loss Surgery (Lap-Band) and I knew at that moment that I would have this surgery and be a happy participant in turning my life around.  So far, I've lost 43.8 pounds and I'm well on my way!  I'm off all my diabetes medications (except one) and hope to be off it very soon.  I will happily share my journey with anyone who is interested
~

Blessings,
Sharon
