As you can tell from my profile date, it took me a year to go from "thinking about surgery" to seeing Dr. Todd in Anchorage, AK. I sure wish I had at least spent six months of that doing the supervised weight loss!! But all things for a reason.

I met with Dr. Todd and his staff on March 18, 2014 and on March 21 I started my six months with a local clinic. I live off the road system in western Alaska so this should be quite an adventure.

My health as taken a few hits this past year making this surgery my last ditch effort to get healthy. I have high blood pressure, asthma, diabetes, congestive heart failure, non alcoholic liver disease,  and sleep apnea. I have had both knees replaced and suffer from spinal stenosis as a result of back injuries over the years. I take eight medications a day and all of this could be reversed with weight loss. Needless to say a lot is riding on this!!

I have two wonderful sons, my oldest lives outside Big Lake and my youngest (18 year old) lives in Bethel with me. My husband is holding down the fort back in Georgia, he didn't like the AK winter. :)

I have always felt heavy, although looking at pictures from my teens and early twenties, I would give anything to look that good!!  In fact the only time I felt like I looked well was after I became really ill and had emergency appendectomy in my teens. That is why I picked 140 as my goal weight is I believe that is what I lost down to then. Granted I have lived alot since then, so I would be happy at 140-150. It is not so much the number as what will it take to get healthy.
