3 days post op

Dec 22, 2010

Surgery went well.  I have 6 stab wounds, plus the drain incision.  I guess my surgeon encountered a lot of adhesions from past surgeries, which I kind of expected.  He also found that I have a hernia up high, just below my breasts.  He didn't fix it, said it will need to be discussed with my PCP.  I will have to ask more questions when I am more lucid!

So there was a LOT of pain for the past 3 days.  Then, last night, I took a dose of Roxicet and climbed into my own bed, something I didn't expect to be able to do based on the time I spent with physical therapy.   I ended up having a very restful, pain-free sleep! And I feel so much better today.  I was up and showered by 4:30 (just because I was awake ... probably from sleeping so much yesterday).

Well just wanted to check in.  Now I'm going to reveiew my stage I eating plan to make sure I am on track.

Almost there

Dec 17, 2010

Surgery is in 3 days.  At my pre-op appointment with my surgeon on Wednesday, I was down 33 lb, so I probably won't make my 40 lb personal pre-op goal, but that's okay.  Close enough!  Surgery is on Monday.  I am working this weekend, so that will keep me busy and distracted.  I am trying to get most of the "details" in place today, like putting out outfits for my 2 youngest for Monday - Thursday next week.  Thankfully, they'll be off for Christmas vacation after that.

I don't feel nervous yet, but I probably am.  I think more about the things that I will need to adjust to post-op than about the surgery itself.  I have a good surgeon, and I have faith in him.

I can't wait to start posting "after" pictures!

Here's hoping everyone has a wonderful CHRISTmas!

Finally...

Nov 17, 2010

Shortly after that last post, I decided it was time to get really serious and buckle down.  I started a routine of 2 meal replacement protein shakes per day, with regular food for dinner.  By the time I went for my next weigh-in, I had lost a total of 20lb.   During that time, I also found out that my insurance was changing drastically as of Jan 1, and the surgery would most likely not be covered.  That was motivation!  With the much appreciated help of the clinic staff, we moved my remaining appointments up a bit to get it all in.  Two weeks later, I had lost another 5.2 and they approved me for surgery.  Today I met with my surgeon (and, incidently, am 0.5lb below my pre-op goal, 27.5 total lost!) and got my surgery date.  December 20th!  I am so grateful to have made it in under the wire!  Apparently another patient rescheduled his surgery just this morning, leaving the opening!  God works in mysterious ways!  I am so relieved to be scheduled!  I don't even care about the fact that I'll be in the hospital until days before Christmas!  My goal is to continue losing and hopefully have 40 lb total weight loss pre-op.  I already feel a difference with less than 30 off!

Slowly but surely...

Oct 02, 2010

It's been 2 months since I had my initial visit and mapped out my journey.  And I've barely lost 10 pounds.  It is coming off SO slowly!  It's almost like I am rebelling against the fact that I HAVE to lose this weight!  But I have some serious incentive to get it off and fast.  Thanks to Obamacare, I have no idea what my insurance will look like come January.   So I really need to buckle down and get this weight off and get this surgery done in the next 3 months.  If I came this far only to find out that I'm no longer covered, I would be devastated.  So I'm trying.  Really trying.  I've got the eating down, now I need to get MOVING!

Psych eval done (passed! LOL), sleep eval done (and re-eval, and now I'm sleeping with a CPAP. no apnea, just hypopnea - whatever.  I have a real issue with that, but that's another post), 6-week class done.  My first group session is coming up.  I need to have the lab work done week, because I have an appointment with the doctor at the clinic on Thursday.  UGH! I hope I have some significant loss to show!  I should be having my EKG that same day.  Then all pre-op stuff is done except for the weight loss.  I just re-read my last post where I bragged "No problem!!!" about losing 27 pounds.  Ugh...

Hope my next post is good news - like a surgery date!

Journey has been mapped out

Aug 06, 2010

My information session was June 23, then I just had the first appointment with the Obesity Treatment Center Thursday night.  I have most of my remaining appointments scheduled; the rest I'll schedule this week.  I need a psych eval, a sleep study, and an EKG.  I need to attend 2 group sessions and a 6-week "healthy lifestyles" class.  I also need to get some labwork done.  Last but NOT least, I need to lose 27 pounds.  Basically, the ball is in my court, because as soon as I lose those 27 pounds, I can schedule my surgery, and they're booking only 2-3 weeks out right now.

27 pounds?  That's not even intimidating!  I've lost 27 pounds many times in my life!

So that's where I stand now.  I spend hours looking at before & after pictures on here.  I can't wait to be looking at my own!
