8 months - Down 156 lbs

Dec 01, 2007

I have been going to the gym 6 days a week for the past 2 weeks and it is helping. Decided to get my son and I five sessions with a personal trainer for Christmas. We had our first session a little over a week ago, I didn't realize just how much upper body strength I had lost till I tried doing all the different weight machines.

7 months - down 137 lbs

Nov 02, 2007

It's been a while since I last posted.  Things have been going much better!  I am currently on blood thinners for the next 6 months to help break up clots.  Other than that had my 6 month blood work and everything is good just low on iron, but working on getting that back up.  Time to pick up the exercising to drop the remaining 80 lbs.

4 months - down 95lbs

Aug 10, 2007

I am a week late in posting my 4 month, as of today I am now down 102 lbs. Can't believe it is all happening so fast. I actually have to add a meal. Ususally my NUT likes us to do 3 meals and 2 snacks, but doctor wants me to do 4 meals and 1-2 snacks to start slowing down my weight. Also try to eat 3/4 to 1 cup of food at a time. My vitamin, calcium, and B-12 levels are great, but I do need to up my iron and potassium.
Got the call that I do have a blood clot in my left groan and he is sending me to a vascular doctor closer to home for a second option on where we go next. I do still have the greenfiled filter in place to prevent clots from breaking off and going to my lungs or heart.  But during this time I have to stop all exercising so I don't know how that is going to effect my weight loss or what muscles I do have.

Greenfield Filter Removal

Jul 22, 2007

Well, i don't know how to put this except I almost died.  I went in July 9th for a greenfield filter removal and they told me prior to procedure that if they noticed it had attached to blood vessel due to scar tissue they would have to leave it in. WELLLLL....I got a doctor who though he could just keep pulling on it to detach. In the processes he caused clotting at filter and in both of the vessels in my groan. I was put in ICU and the next day they had to make sure he did not tear the vena cava vessel.  Thank God he didn't BUT...went back into surgery so they could blast blood thinners directly to clots. While on the table they put me into kidney failer, my cathidar bag was the color of wine. (SCAREY AS HECK)  Back in ICU for 2 days I went. All in all I was in the hospital for 6 1/2 days and have to follow-up with kidney doctor next week, then in 3 weeks have a CTscan on my legs to check for anymore clotting. If they do find clotting then I will have to be put on blood thinners for 6 months.

3 Months out

Jul 01, 2007

Can't believe it has been 3 months already. Currently down 79lbs / BMI 48.4 and feeling great.  Have more engery, I have been riding bike, walking and taking the stairs everyday at work and my knees do not hurt or am I out of breath....YEA!!!!  Still waiting for my incision to heal completely.  I go on the 9th to have my greenfield filter removed, then on the 11th for my  3 month follow-up interested in knowing how my blood levels are doing.

6/2/07 - 2 months out

Jun 01, 2007

Well, I am 2 months out and I have lost 64 lbs and my new BMI is 50.6. How exciting.  I was back in the hospital earlier this week.  About a week an half ago I called my surgeon with pains in the top part of my insicion and I could feel a lump if I push on it. He said it sound like a hernia and to make a appointment to come in later.  Well then on Memorial day when we went to change my bandage the top of my insicion was red, hot and looking bruised. Called my suregeon and he wanted to see me in ER first thing in the morning.  Once there they did a CT-scan and found it was not a hernia but a deep abscess. Kept me in the hospital for about 42 hours on strong meds and was going to drain it, but since it was responding well to meds they let me go home and follow up a week later.  Then yesterday it started to drain by itself. OUCH!!!! But it actually is helping cause when I sit up I don't feel the big pressure I had before.  Even with all these problems I have had with my insicion site I would do this surgery again if I had to.  I've been handling food great and have not thrown up, currently at the stage where they added Carbs to my diet. In a couple weeks I get to add Fruit, then after another 3 weeks I will be able to add fatty foods like peanut butter, cheese, and etc.

Still not back to work yet and it is driving me nuts.

5/26/07 - 60 lbs gone forever

May 26, 2007

Can't believe 60 lbs gone forever already.  YIPPY!!!
Not back to work yet and going nuts. Have a little hole in my stomach that needs to be packed twice a day still due to infection. (4cm deep)  Think I have a hernia. Noticed a hard lump at the top of my incision site so called doctor when it started hurting.  Had to make an appointment for next Weds to find out. He said if it is a hernia he would not be doing surgery to fix it till I have lost alot more weight.  Had a freind who got a free tummy tuck when they fixed hers.

Happy Mother's Day!!!

May 12, 2007

Well today is a hard day for me since I recently lost my mom. I plan to keep our tradition and head to the farmers market today to get flowers for the garden. Can't plant them yet due to my wound still being open. I'm not allowed to lift or push anything, probably still for the next few weeks. Bummer!!  My sister is going to help me though.

On a good note i jumped on the scale today and I am now 342 lbs, which is 55 lbs gone forever from my pre-op diet weight.  That is Great!

4/20 Update

Apr 20, 2007

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I had to go back in the hospital for a few days due to infection in my incision. They had to re-open my long incision to drain infection, which is still open. OUCH! Thank goodness my sister can handle repacking my wound twice a day for the next 3 - 4 weeks.  I am still very happy that I had the surgery even with these complications.
I did go today for a follow-up and get my staples out.  I am down 31 lbs from before my pre-op diet and 20 lbs since discharge from hospital.  WOW -- 31lbs!!!
