It's been awhile

Sep 09, 2009

Down 4 pounds since my last appointment, opted against a fill.  Just felt like I'm not totally doing my part and am afraid of being too tight.  So, instead I'm going to re-commit to protein, vitamins and more exercise.  Gotta get back on the wagon.

I am pretty darn excited to be within 12 pounds of goal weight though....never in my wildest dreams did I think that would become a reality!!!!!

Hope everyone is doing well!!!!

Results from my last fill

Jun 19, 2009

Woohoo....I'm seeing the scale start moving again....Down to 174 and feeling great.  Not seeing that much change in my clothes, but definitely seeing it on the scale.  Hey, beggars can't be choosers, lol!!  I've increased my walking to 5-6 miles per day and I know that my weight may fluctuate with increased muscle addition.

I can still honestly say, through the liquid pre-diet, surgery, liquid/mushy stages that felt like they lasted a lifetime....I'm still so grateful and thrilled to have had this surgery!!!!!

Finally, another fill

Jun 02, 2009

Went to see Dr. Fox last Wednesday....finally got my 3rd fill.  Whew!  What a difference a fill makes.  I only lost 3 pounds since my last appointment, not surprising based on how much I could actually eat and still get hungry, lol!  He put another 1.25 cc in my band and that makes a grand total of 7.5cc.  He thinks we may be at or close to my "sweet spot", but time will tell.

After such a long time since my last fill I'd forgotten how tight you feel, how hard it is to even drink fluids and how wonderfully full I feel all of the time.  I feel like I got the jump start I needed to get back on the losing game!

I'm down to 189 (down from 259), in a size 16 (down from a 24), 29.6 bmi (down from 41) and couldn't be happier.  Of course I'd love to keep shrinking, keep losing and keep on doing better.  But if you told me today that I was done, that this was as good as it was going to get....I'd be okay with that.  Matter of a fact, I'd be thrilled.  Because, quite frankly, I didn't know I'd get here.

I've gotten back on the exercise band wagon, walking 2-4 miles per day and making way smarter food choices.

Hope all is well with everyone!  Keep up the great work and keep me posted!

My appointment

Apr 29, 2009

Went to my dr appointment yesterday afternoon.  Down another 9 pounds and still no fill.  That's a good thing....right? lol

I know it is....I'm still losing weight at a steady rate, a healthy rate.  I've only had 2 fills and still having success.  Now the only problem, I'm struggling with hunger.  I'm able to eat a fairly good amount of food, but shouldn't and am fighting both real hunger pangs and the head games that come with being a life long dieter.

My dr. prescribed phentramine, so I may start taking that....my insurance doesn't cover it, so we'll see how expensive it ends up being....

So, for now....I try and bask in my success, eat smart, exercise as time allows and keep on keeping on......

Hope all is well with all my other "loser" friends!!!!

I've made it to "onederland"

Apr 02, 2009

I've finally reached my first goal to be under 200 pounds.  I'm at 199 as of today!  Woohoo!!!  I haven't weighed this since I was pregnant with my son (16 years ago)!  What a wonderful feeling.  Next stop; to weigh less than 180!

Went in for 3rd Fill

Mar 27, 2009

Went in for my 3rd fill yesterday....I'm down 15 pounds since my appointment last month and feeling pretty good about that.  He opted to not do the fill, suggested why mess with something that is working.  I agree from a practical standpoint, but that dieter in me is screaming, "it won't keep working if we don't do the fill"!  hahaha

I go back in a month to see where I'm at.  So, I will keep on keeping on.  I think I'm still feeling that filled sensation with a moderate amount of restriction, so all in all I'm still in a good place.  I've really tried to focus on my meals being high in protein, so maybe that's all helping.

I've fallen off the exercise wagon here in the last few weeks, need to recommit to that this weekend and really push hard to get into some similance of shape (I used to argue that round was a shape) hahaha

Well, hope all are well and having success on your journey!  60ish pounds gone, 60ish to go.  Feels pretty surreal to be at the halfway mark and I'm only at month 3 1/2.

2nd Fill!!!!

Feb 18, 2009

Had my second fill on Monday.  This one was very different, than the last.  Not the fill itself, but the outcome.  I went in feeling very defeated and discouraged.  Hadn't really felt like I was losing as fast as I could be and that I was eating more than I should be.  After discussing with my surgeon, he reassured me that all is well and that my 11 pound loss was pretty average for this stage in the game.  He told me that this fill would be completely different than the last one, and that my restriction would be more consistent with this one and the next fill I have.  Boy was he right......the restriction is really nice!  The first few days were tough, barely able to get down clear liquids, but now, I'm back to eating....only this time in a very small amount and I feel full!!!!!!  I love my lapband!!!!!

Had my 1st fill

Jan 20, 2009

Woohoo!  Down 14 more pounds and survived my 1st fill.  Wasn't near as bad as I thought it might be.  It went perfectly smooth and I was amazed by the way you can feel and hear the liquids as he's tightening and your drinking the water.  I've been thrilled with the updated restriction and am pleased to have that full feeling after having so little to eat again!  I will update again in a few weeks......Happy Losing

Headed to my first fill

Jan 16, 2009

Today is my first fill and I'm pretty excited....had a slow down in weight loss and not much restriction left.  Not really nervous about the fill itself, my surgeon is doing it.  More anxious than anything....can't wait to feel restricted again and speed up that losing process!  I've been using my wii fit most days and walking on my breaks at work.  I'm finding that even just that 20 pounds gone has made walking easier and less painful.

I'll post again after my fill when I know officially what my weight is!

Post Surgery

Dec 28, 2008

Well, I'm just a little over 2 weeks post op and boy do I feel great.  I started my lap-band research late spring of 2008.  After attending a seminar and reading this and many other websites, I decided to move forward in my weight-loss dream.  I was fortunate that my insurance (health comp) did cover this procedure, although not without jumping through a few hoops.  In August I really started to work through the testing process and once insurance approved attended my pre-surgical nutritional class and was finally put on the calendar for December 12th.  Its been a very long several months working through all of the things required for both the doctor and the insurance company, but sitting in the waiting room anticipating that I'm giving myself the best gift I could ever give....it was ALL worth it!

My surgery took about an hour and 1/2 (I also had a hernia requiring 3 stitches).  Recovery was good (I had opted for the anti-nausea pill prior to surgery) and was up walking, drinking and using the restroom in no time.

First couple of days home were the toughest for me, but as the doctor recommended I took my pain med around the clock, walked the house and slept every time I was tired.  By days 3 and 4 it just continued to get better and I was back to work for a couple of days by day 6.  I worked 2, took 2 off.  Worked 2 more and then took 5 off (the holidays were jumbled in the middle there and it all worked out perfect....got to recover and spend time with my family)!

At my one week followup I weighed for the first time since my nutritional class (Nov 20th), already 18 pounds down, that was pretty darn exciting.

So, I'm doing well.  I am loving my protein (although not perfect by my doctors standards; a little more fat and carbs than he'd like) it's tasty and I don't really mind drinking it (BSN syntha 6, chocolate mint is my favorite)!  I'm looking forward to graduating to the mushy stage here in two more weeks and than real food 4 weeks later.

I've got a couple of friends that also have had lap-band, one Oct 16th (Down 40 pounds) and one Dec 23rd (Down 18 pounds).  We're also talking about starting up our own support group (we live in a pretty remote small community), so I will keep everyone posted.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO A NEW YOU AND ME!!!!!!
