Add Sleep Apnea to the list...

May 10, 2007

of things I hope that resolves with WLS.  Yes.  I officially have Sleep Apnea.

I was tested in two positions.. on my back and on my side.  On my back was much worse than the side.  After being monitored, I had to sleep with the mask.

The first one that she put on me induced a panic attack.  (oops!) I guess some people--including myself--do get a bit claustorphobic with the mask.  We tried two other masks with the third one being much better.  I was actually able to sleep soundly on my back.. which has NEVER happened as long as I can remember! :-)

I'm really glad I went in to have this tonight.  I have to go on the machine thingy and being that it's required for 30 days, it could have delayed surgery.  It also did make a difference in the quality of my sleep... which totally amazes me!

Sleep Apnea test here I come!

Tonight is my sleep apnea test!! How crazy is THAT?!?

I spoke to a Nikki at the Drs office and she told me I would need to have this done.  I also read on this fabulous site that my Doc requires 30 days of using the sleep apnea machine before he'll do the surgery if you have sleep apnea.  So I had my primary care doc schedule me and the soonest they could get me in was late June.

THEN someone called me from the hospital saying they had a cancellation for TONIGHT! So I took it! :-)

I'm pretty sure I have sleep apnea.  I snore really bad and I can never seem to get a good night of sleep.

I'm getting really excited about starting my new life.  I am getting all my doctor records so I can have them for my May 29th consult.  The nurse said they've scheduled within a MONTH of the consult in the past.. all depends on the presurgery testing.  She had also said the sleep apnea usually is the one that holds everything up!

I have a consult date!!

Since I switched jobs, I have new health insurance.  I read in the pamphlet thingy that WLS is covered! (woo hoo!)

I spoke to Mary at Dr. Glascock's office and she told me I may have to do a 6-mo or 12-mo supervised diet for insurance.  I was totally bummed about that but decided to call the insurance agency on Friday to find out.

The main requirements are an over 40 BMI (done) and documented efforts of trying to lose weight over the past three years (done). SO I called and have my consult on May 29th.  WOO HOO!!
