My 6 month surgiversary is today!

Jan 17, 2010

It's been 6 months officially and  I truely know that this is the best thing I have done for myself.  I wondered prior to surgery how it would feel losing 100 pounds and now i can say that i have lost just that.  On the record, I have lost 106 pounds from my highest weight, 96 pounds since April when my weightloss journey began (which includes 21 pre-op pounds) and  75 pounds since surgery.  My BMI  was 66 at the weight of 362 and is now 47.  I wish I had taken measurements pre-op but I have gone from a 34-36W to a 26W.  I am able to shop in many more stores for clothing and like trying on clothes.  Shopping has become fun.  Before, the only things I could shop for was bras, panties, purses,  nightgowns and shoes but now I shop for dresses, skirts, sweaters, pants- I can shop the sales and don't feel self conscious combing through the racks.

I have been getting more people noticeing me.  It's kinda funny; they sometimes don't want to say 'you look better now that you have lost some weight' so they say 'you look like you are feeling better'.  It's funny how people respond to massive weight loss.  Since I didn't tell many people abpout my surgical procedure, they can only speculate.  Some try to question me, others talk behind my back but that doesn't bother me.  It's my business and I prefer not to share with everyone-just a chosen few.

I have not been losing a lot of weight lately, but I am still losing inches.  I can see my fat shifting and am getting saggier.  I have always said that I would not see plastics but I will have to reconsider that at some point.  I have about 110-120 pounds I would like to lose and I may want some surgical help at that time...we'll see!

I am so pleased with my duodenal switch.  It has been a godsend.  I am living again.  I have had no complications.  Everything is going well.

I love my DS!!!

Dec 29, 2009

Things have been going just fine for me.  I went on a much needed vacation with my boyfriend in November to Las Vegas.  We had a ball and I was a contestant on 'Let's Make A Deal'!  I  did a quickie deal and won $100.00 .  A wonderful week in Vegas in a condo, lots of shopping (which is one thing I could have never done 80 pounds ago), a new Coach purse, lots of good food and private time with my honey-who could ask for more?  We hated to come back home but had to.

Then came the Christmas season.  This time of year seems to get me down but I  get through it.  Everyone was pleased with the gifts I got them and that makes me happy.  I just wish it weren't so commercial.  Jesus is truely the reason for the season.  I had hoped to see my grand kids but my son and his wife never see it as an option to come and visit during the holiday season-oh well.

I have lost a total of 105 pounds from my highest weight, 95 since my pre-op diet began in April of 2009, 75 since surgery in July.  I am so happy!!!

I am progressing well...

Oct 06, 2009

I am very happy with my progress.  I am losing and it is showing.  I am able to wear clothes I have not worn in almost 20 years!..  Since I had mostly basics, they don't seem to be really out of style.  I love my DS!!!

It's been a rough week...

Sep 12, 2009

Our beloved doggie, Harley died this past Thursday in my daughters arms.  When I heard her yell, I knew something bad had happened.  She was holding him and crying as he took his last breath.  We only had him since 2004 (adopted from the local animal shelter) and he was my constant companion while I was sick (for over 2 years) while my dd was away at college.  Our other furbaby, Roscoe, kept going to the closet last night, so he must have known.  So, our family chain has been broken but we have many happy memories of our beloved Harley.

Still waiting ...but it's worth the wait!

May 22, 2009

I have one more session with my psychologist before she sends the final report to Dr Anthone.  My appointment is June 1st.  When I spoke with Angie at his office, she said that they are scheduling about 4 weeks out so that puts my surgery in July.  Thats cool because I have been waiting for years to have weight loss surgery and now that I am properly informed and know that this surgery is for me, I know its all going to be ok.  I can wait a few more weeks.  I have ordered some suppliments and have started drinking protein shake...which are very good I might add!  I am doing what I can to build up my body for surgery, so I have also started taking vitamins.  Life is good...

Asked dr's office to send my pre op tests to surgeon...

May 06, 2009

I called my PCP's office and had them fax my pre op testing results to Dr Anthone's office.  Irene called me to get the fax number so I guess it's done.  I had my pulmonary test, lab work, chest xray and cardiac clearence which includes my stress test-all finished.  My psychological testing is scheduled for next Thursday but I was thinking that maybe they can give me a date based on the test I have already finished.  I am confident that the psych eval will go fine.  I'm getting excited and a little nervous.  I think I will order some suppliments and protein bullets soon.

Consultation-done!

Apr 11, 2009

We had a great trip on Wednesday and got there with plenty of time to have lunch prior to the consultation.  Dr Anthone was really nice and knowledgable and answered all of my questions.  He has set a requirement of 10 pound weight loss prior to surgery so I am now avoiding all potatoes, rice, pasta and breads.  Since I am a carbaholic, it is sort of difficult for me but I am so excited to be within reach of surgery, I am pumped.  I also got all of my pre-op orders, so I will be seeing my PCP on the 20th to get those things going.  I had a psych eval when i was pursuing lap band but Dr Anthone says it needs to be DS specific so I will make an appointment with the same psychiatrist to have a new evaluation.  I am so excited!!!   My daughter and I went to the grocery store yesterday and got a lot of things I can eat since I am dieting.   Life is going so great right now...and I have already lost 4 pounds!

I'm in the process...really!

Apr 02, 2009

I have my initial appointment with Dr Anthone on Wednesday.  My daughter and I are driving to Omaha that morning and returning the same day.  I have my paperwork done and will take some extra medical reports I have just in case he needs them.  I an so glad I decided to change surgeons and procedures.  I feel confident with the DS and know its the surgery for me.

It's been a long time but this is what I really want....

Jul 01, 2008

I know it seems like I have given up but not a day goes by that I don't think about weight loss surgery.  I am seriously considering changing from lap band to DS but I am sort of concerned that my family will fight me on it.  Since I have found out that Medicare requires a doctor superviesed weight loss trial, I have made my appointment with my primary care to get started.  My appointment is next Monday, July 7th.  This is a major step for me.  I know that I have the support of my daughter and my son, who without surgery has lost 200 pounds in the past year and a half.  I am so proud of him and he says he will never get fat like he was again.  He exercises daily and watches what he eats.  Like I said, I am really proud of him..  What stopped me in my tracks before was that the surgeon required $5,000. on top of what medicare pays.  i have not worked in almost 4 years and can't afford any more loans.  I make it each month by the glory of God.  I am looking for a part time job but have had no success.  I am just not physically able to hold a full time job down yet. I am getting a little down because no one will give me a chance.  I'm fat...not dumb; but I will keep trying.   I am on my way to getting what I have wanted for a long time.

A change in surgeons...

Jun 09, 2007

My insurance has changed and now I am on Medicare.  Therefore, I had to start over due to Medicare's regulations regarding bariactric surgery.  I am now pursuing my surgery with Dr Hitchcock at the Bariactric Center at SM Medical Center.  I feel very confident that I will have an approval soon.  I am also getting both knees replaced ,(one at a time), and that will help me to be more mobile and exercise once I have surgery.  I am very excited about all the changes in my life that are soon to come.
