Summer with a Sleeve

Sep 03, 2012

So, I amy not have been as great as I had hoped to be about keeping a blog going, but I will start now....Surgery was May 10th, 2012...Easy as baking a cake...sorry for the food content, but really...the worst part was the Super-dooper dry cotton-mouth when I woke up....blood pressure was a little high, so they didn't give me any water right away as normal, and because the ICU was full...I was put up on a normal ward for the night.....Monique did come visit about 4  in the afternoon and that was great as she finally got them to give me some ice chips and water......family came to visit...all was good...not sore at all...only when I tried to drink....for some reason I totally forgot about the fill your mouth part and I was trying to just take sips...talk about gas pain!!!!!   I got up 3-4 times during the night and walked, so that was good....weight after surgery was 342...so let the journey begin......

The first week or so on liquids was okay....not hungry at all...just trying to add some protein powder to some stock and thinkgs like that....walking inside the house and I never really had any "Air/gas pains" that they warned us about...but when I tried to take a drink....look out...that was painful the first 10 days or so....I dropped the weight very fast in the first week....I was 327 after 1 week.....then I pretty much sat for the next 2 weeks or so...nothing....and eating nothing really....anyway...followed the paln and just kept going....

Week 3&4 were mushy food...and it was really hard to find anything that would sit properly, so I ended up sticking with more soups and some canned foods.....still no major lossmaybe 5 lbs

When I started regular food, one of the first things I tried was toast and P'Butter....it was like heaven...just a slice of the Body Wise bread...Tuna melts on Body Wise was another favortie.....still little , little bits and no drinks for at least 15 min after eating...or it all came back up...more than a few times.....

So by 6 weeks it was July first and I was eating slowly and little amounts, but drinking water mauch better ans feeling good.  I was about 317 and loving it...everything old was new again...lots of stuff I had bought  "going to lose weight," and never did, so now it all fits....

Week of July 18th my sister-in-law arrived at our family cottage and informed me that we were going to walk evry day...and we did...by the end of the second week we were up to about 4 km and loving it...the time away from the kids was nice too...

Aug back in town and running the kids to soccer almost every night....I have really noticed that my weight really sits still during my "time of the month" and so I really only have 2.5 weeks of good weight losing time...then I hit a stall...Oh well it still goes down....

Summer is over and I have booked my family to do the CIBC Walk for the Cure in memory of our Dad....I year ago he passed very quickly and never got to see my success...
