This is Stephanie. I am home, hopefully for good this time. My surgery went well but I did have some complications. My first night I thought I was having a heart attack. Which turned out to be muscle-skeletal pain, still very scary. Learned the next day that my doctor did a hernia repair and placed a very large piece of mesh that has caused pain in a couple areas including my chest area. Biggest concern was the pain I was feeling in the lower right-hand corner of my abdomen, really close to my hip. Doctors passed this off as pain from tissue scarring from that large piece of mesh. After being at home for 3 days and having doubled my pain meds without much relief, I called the doctor again and went back to the hospital. This was no small task considering it is about 2 1/2 hours away and a very painful drive. After CT's they discovered a large pocket of fluid in my abdomen and decided to put in a drain. They did this however without any sedation. It was my worst nightmare. I had this procedure done before and I was wide awake and did not feel a thing. I never imagined what would happen. I still cry when I talk or even think about it. The bad part is that they missed the pocket and I had to have it done again. I was crying before I even got on the stretcher to go down. There was a wonderful nurse there with me, who promised me that she would not let them do anything to me until I was out. It took alot just to get me to concent, considering I started freaking out as soon as I got on the CT table. I was kinda p.o'd by that time and there was one particular snotty blond that was there the first time that had my left hook designated for her right cheek. I was just so scared, scared to death. I have had 9 surgerys since I was 8yrs old and that doesnt include all my other health problems. I am almost completely fearless when it comes to medical procedures, not any more. Well, now I am home with drain still intact. Antoher thing to be scared of, taking the drain out. I still am having pain but not nearly as bad and tylenol 3 seems to be keeping it under control. The problem I am having now is eating. I virtually lost my appetite overnight and now am struggling to find something eat. It seems I am not lactose intolerant. whooopeeee! I tried egg today and it tasted sooooo good but I cant seem to eat enough. Protein shakes are going down very slowly and I am very thirsty all the time. Well, hopefully I will lose my drain on Monday and I will work on eating in the mean time. Just want to say thanks to everyone for their support!
