"I would recommend her. She was very interested in what my life was like, what type of support there was in my life, i.e.: family, friends, etc. While she kept things moving along, I didn't feel
rushed out of the office. She was upfront about what would be in her report, didn't put me down for wanting this surgery, checked to make sure that I was aware of the risks and benefits, that I had realistic goals and expectations, etc. The only thing I would mention is that she didn't have the gigantic roomy chairs that my surgeon had, so the super morbidly obese might not fit easily. I notice this kind of thing because I'm so worried about not fitting in seats and stuff like that."
"I had my consultation with Dr. Kamelgard on March 25, 2003. I viewed a one hour video and then had a personal meeting with him. I really respected that I wasn't treated "like so much cattle" that many of the group wls seminars use for information seminars. I knew that day that I wanted Dr Kamelgard for my surgeon because he is cautious and conservative. He is very careful to stress over and over again that the desire to have wls is entirely the patient's decision and he will NEVER chase patients.
I wasn't rushed out of the office by him or his staff. I really felt that they were as interested in carefully evaluating each patient that wants surgery as we are in choosing a surgeon. I love the fact that Dr. Kamelgard requires medical and psychiatric evaluation prior to applying for surgical authorization. He wants to be certain that patients really understand EVERYTHING. He also requires nutritional counseling and physical therapy prior to surgery to help patients with their recovery. There is also a support group for everyone; pre- and post-ops. I know that I've made a great choice with Dr. Kamelgard and look forward to a long Dr/patient relationship!"
