My name is Jackie and today I turn 29 years old. Tomorrow I am having the Lap band surgery. I am a bit scared but more excited!! I am so ready for a change in my life.
Do not get me wrong, I have a great life...a fabulous supportive family and tons of great friends. There has just been something missing... a quality of life that my weight would not allow me to have. At 28 years old I weighed 375lbs. This is just not acceptable for my health or in society. The weight has stopped me from doing so much and I am just ready for that to change.
I met with Dr. Mumford at The Surgical Weightloss Center in Mississauga Ontario on Sept 25 2007. He was anxious for me to have the surgery and said I was a great candidate. He made the date right then and there for October 16 2007. I started 3 weeks of Opti fast (liquid diet) that day and have not looked back. I still cannot believe I have not eaten real food in almost a month... something about this feels so right that it was never that much of a struggle.
I have so much hope for the first time in my life as I know this will work for me. I understand now that diets do not work and all those years I was not a failure! I have a whole new outlook on life, and for the first time I am excited!!
I will document my journey from now on through blogs and photos not only for those thinking of the procedure but for myself so I can look back with pride!
