Catching up....

Aug 23, 2010

I apologize to my friends. I've not been on this site for years.  I've had a baby since and things are going well for the most part.  Struggling with B12, folate and iron levels.  Weekly B12 shots and Iron infusion on Friday.  I'd go through it again though, so happy living life healthier.  I just still struggle with pop....it's my downfall.

Bad at updating...

Sep 11, 2007

Ok, so I'm almost 4 months post up, down 95 lbs and HAPPY!!!!!  I now weigh 265, started at 360.  Having issues with kidney stones and infections but hope it will pass soon.  Started a new career, busy with my husband and daughter, and opening a business in 2 weeks.  A lot on my plate but I like it busy.  Keeps life interesting.  Ok, so will post new pics as soon as I can and will try to keep updating on here.  LIFE IS NUTS!!

Excited? Maybe. Nervous? Definately.

May 13, 2007

Getting ready for my upcoming surgery.  Definately nervous yet, excited...I'm not sure.  I'm excited to finally be on the losing side but again, scared of the what-if's.  Trying to forget them and go about my daily routine but it's tough.  This surgery is consuming my mind 24/7.  I am finding it difficult to sleep at night and when I do it's fitfully.  Hoping all goes well.  Trying the mind over matter, relaxation, deep breathing, etc.  I know it's vital to have a good attitude going into surgery...I'm trying.  I'll post more before I leave for the hospital.

So...protein drinks and low-fat, low-sugar diet.........

May 05, 2007

So, I've been sampling and playing around with the protein drinks.  So far I have found a few I HATE and a few I really like.  Hate the IsoPure Zero Carb ready to drink supplements.  Really do not like the EAS Myoplex Lite drinks...horrid aftertaste and if you chug it, you will puke--I did.  The ones I really do like are GNC's Pro Performance 100% Whey Cookies and Creme and GNC Pro Performance 100% Whey Protein Strawberry.  The cookies and creme one I made with skim milk, tastes like a oreo milkshake.  The strawberry one I blended with fresh strawberries and it tastes like a strawberry milk shake.  I also really like Nectar Fuzzy Navel (mix that with crystal light)--tastes like a real alcoholic beverage and Matrix 5.0 Chocolate (warm it up-tastes just like hot chocolate--no lie, no aftertaste or anything).  So I have a few favorites so far.  If you have a GNC and you sign up for their Gold Card you can save a ton.  Stuff I bought was buy one get one 50% off plus the first week of each month you get another 20% off...I got two bags of shakes for 16 bucks.  All I need to get yet is the unflavored protein powder to add into food...that will be later though.  Been kinda hard to stick to the high protein, low fat diet...cravings are kicking in hard.  I had a few slips here and there but think I will do ok.  I don't want to be opened up because I have a fatty liver so I need to stick with it.  I can taste a Godfather's Humble Pie pizza right now it's crazy.  Anyway, will post more another time...

Getting ready for the 2 week pre-op diet

Apr 30, 2007

I'm not really excited about this...I have ordered some samples of protein shakes off the internet.  I'm waiting for them to get here.  Been a little more nervous.  I got my will done...better to be safe than sorry, I want to make sure my debt gets evenly distributed...hehehe.  I assigned my "angel"--Rebecca C...she's on my friends list.  We have a lot in common and so I think we agreed to be eachother's angel.  She is having surgery May 9th.  It's exciting but nerve-racking.  My surgeon is ready to go it seems.  My surgery is at 8 am, I have to be there at 6 am and it's an hour drive so I am sure I won't be sleeping that night.  Anyway...more to come later!

Tests and more tests.....

Apr 20, 2007

Yesterday I had my lab work, physical, and gall bladder ultrasound.  Seems everything came back great with exception of the ultrasound...I have gall stones...so I'm assuming I will have my gall bladder out at the same time of the surgery.  I go see my surgeon on Monday for the last time before surgery.  He will let me know.  Getting more calm about the surgery but still anxious.

Sooooooooo....yeah.........

Apr 13, 2007

ok, so today is a better day than yesterday.  I had a little issue with anxiety yesterday.  I took it upon myself to get some WLS books off of Amazon.com...the one I am reading now is informative...but it got to a part of the book on some studies they have done on WLS patients and that up to 5-10% of them have some form of brain damage or nerve damage due to malnutrition just after 1 year post op and the damages long term have been unable to be determined.....set off a full fledged panic attack.  I've been feeling nervous anyway about the surgery but I tell ya...I take care of  mentally disabled individuals, and no offense, but when I hear brain damage...uh, I pay attention.  I want to go back to medical school one day, can't do it if I don't have full function up there!  So...I posted on the message forum and got a ton of support, and decided it's still the best thing to do.  I'm at optimal age, one lady told me not to wait as it's better the younger and more healthy a person is...I am considered pretty low risk due to my health being pretty well minus the asthma, joint and back pain, GERD, and polycystic ovaries.  Don't have diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc...so that's in my favor...just ready to get a new lease on life.  I called my surgeon today for reassurance...he said it would be ok to get on some anxiety medication...couldn't hurt...so am going to my Dr. next week for pre-op stuff anyway and gall bladder ultrasound...I'll have him write me a prescription.  I know my husband won't be able to handle a month of me freaking out...it was bad yesterday...but today's better....

Can't wait...............!!!

Apr 10, 2007

All I can say is I can not wait for surgery to be here!   First thing I am going to do when I get close to goal weight is get my butt on roller coasters again!!!  I would never attempt to get onto an amusement park ride right now being 355 lbs.  I'll ride until I puke!!!  Can't wait..............

Loved ones are on board........

Apr 04, 2007

I just had a long talk with my parents and it seems they are on board with the idea of me having WLS.  My father talked to one of his employees that had WLS and got information from her, it seems he learned a lot today...same stuff I told him but I think he needed to hear it from someone unbiased.  Starting to feel really good about this all around.  Appointments are scheduled for labs and ultrasounds...more to come later!!

I recommend going to support groups

Apr 01, 2007

I definately think that having friends that have gone through this type of thing is important.  I haven't personally gone to a support group yet but plan on it asap.  I have a lot of questions about what to expect and how others felt after surgery and if they worried about the same things I am right now.  I have a great friend I talk to on the phone now and she helps answer some of those questions.  She had her surgery a few years ago.  Worrying is going to kill me...I've done a lot of it already.
