Finally a loser!

Apr 11, 2007

So, the surgery, laproscopic Roux-en Y Gastric Bypass, went without a hitch on 4/2/07.  Today I am 9 days out and feeling great.  I'm still in the all liquid phase of my recovery, but have had no nausea or vomiting at all.  My main complaint, which is not even that bad, is gas.  I go to the Dr. tomorrow so I'll get my first official weigh in and I am excited to see my progress.   I have been doing the stairs in my house and walking for the past couple of days, also getting back into the whole housework routine and surprisingly I am not exhausted.  I thought I would be napping all the time, but I have a decent amount of energy and feel ready to go.  I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

I've got a date!

Feb 27, 2007

Well it's finally all becoming real.  I met with Dr. Singh today and I have a surgery date.  4/2/07 will be the first day of my new life.  Dr. singh was great.  I was in and out without much of a wait and he put my nerves at ease immediately.   I am so excited!  I can't wait to be on the loser's bench!  4 weeks, 6 days and counting!!!

Well I finally got my appointment for my surgeon consult! It was delayed because I had to wait for the results of the second sleep study to come in, which took forever! My appointment with Dr. Singh is 2/27/07! YAY

Will keep you posted if I get a surgery date.........

Update

Jan 19, 2007

I did it!  I lost my 10% and I finished all my pre-surgery requirements.  I received my referral to the surgeon today so hopefully I will get to see him within the next month or so.  The only bad news is I have to go on a CPAP machine because I have sleep apnea.  I am hoping to have surgery in March or early April.  Until then I will keep on going to support group  and eating healthy.  I can't stress enough how helpful and motivating the support groups are during this exciting and scary time in my life.  I have met some wonderful people and made some great friends.   I will keep you posted.....

1 month into my journey

Dec 28, 2006

Well, it 's been just over a month since I started this weight loss process.  I am proud to say that I am about 20 lbs lighter than when I started and still losing.(7lbs to go for my 10%)  I will be getting my clearance from my PCP on 1/16/07, had my sleep study and am just waiting for the psych evaluation on 1/19/07.  I am also seeing my nutritionist on that day so if all goes well I am hoping to get a referral to the surgeon.   I have met some very kind and caring people along the way and I can't say enough about the wonderful support network here and at Albany Meds support group.   I am hoping to have surgery by April, but it's ok if I have a wait a little longer.

Today was my first meeting with the nutritionist.  I am seeing Dr. Lindstrom at Albany Med.  She was very nice, but all business.  The good news is I lost 2 lbs since my orientation a couple of days ago (probably water weight, but I'll take it!)  I have to go for a bunch of blood work and I need a sleep study, but aside from that I am on the road to loserville!  I'll post more as things progress.

Well I went to Albany Med this morning for my information session, signed the paperwork, and I am officially on my way! It was not as scary as I thought it would be. I weighed in at 271, so 27 lbs to lose. The good news is I only need 2 clearances as of now....psych and PCP. I my have to get a gastrointestinal clearance because I have IBS, but the nurse said its 50/50 on that. I called to schedule an appt with Dr Algers for my nutritional meeting.  I will keep you posted!
