Post Op Update

Feb 21, 2010

I had my lap RnY on Feb 10.  That morning I weighed 232.  I was surprisingly calm that day.  Things went well and I was released on Saturday the 13.  I feel that I've been really lucky.  I have not had a problem getting around, minimum discomfort, and tolerate most liquids well.

I've heard it's normal but I go through times where I wonder if it was worth it, or did I make a mistake.  I just have to remember where I started and where I could end up, and I know I did the right thing.

Good News

Jan 18, 2010

Well, I'm almost there.  I talked to the insurance company this morning and they said my request for Roux n Y Gastric Bypass has been approved.  I'm still waiting on a date from the doctor's office.  I'm so excited.

Just Waiting

Jan 08, 2010

I had my last required meeting with the dietician on January 5, 2010.  Things went well and my file should be turned over to the insurance company for review and approval. Now it's just a matter of time.  I've met all the insurance requirements so....  For the first time I'm very excited about this.  It's been a long journey and I know a new leg is about to start, but I never thought I'd make it this far.  Now I know I can do this!

October 2009 Update

Oct 10, 2009

I had my monthly meeting with the dietician on Tuesday, October 6.  It went pretty good.  I have another three months before I can submit my file to the insurance company, but Beth thought maybe they could try sending it early since I'm doing so well.  I have all my testing done now.  The pychologist wants me to attend the support meetings before I have surgery, and Dr. Lalor agrees.

I'm down to 258.8 pounds now.  I can finally see a difference in the way my clothes fit.  I need to keep motivated.  It's a long process but the outcome will be worth it!

Not Again

Jul 29, 2009

On Tuesday, July 28, I had to go see the Pyschologist and take the MMPI-2 test.  For those of you who have never heard of the MMPI-2, let me explain it this way.  It stands for the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory.  It 567 questions that have to be answered True/False.  It takes about 2 1/2 hours, and you begin to doubt yourself.  But it's an insurance requirement to make sure you are capable of understanding what you are getting into with the surgery.  Half way through the test, the Dr. took me back to his office and we talked for about 1/2 hour about my weight, eating habits, and some family history.

I think I did ok.  It'll take about 6 weeks for the test results and his report to come back.

Oh, this would be the fourth time I had to take the MMPI-2.  I had to take it each time I started a new job at the power plant.

At this point, I think all my testing / procedures are done.  Now it's just going through the nutritional portion.  I have my 2nd appointment with the Dietician August 4.

Internist Review

Jul 21, 2009

Today I had my appointment with the Internist.  After reviewing my medical history, test results, and a physical exam, he told me he saw no reason I couldn't have the surgery.  Now I just need to see the pychologist and continue a few more months with the nutritionist.  I'm starting to get excited about this!
