Movin' right along-sorta

Mar 17, 2011

This is how I feel some days! On Feb.24, I driving down the road, minding my own business, when I was hit but a small white truck.  My car was totaled.  I spent 6 nights in the hospital, had 2 surgeries on my right ankle and am definitely on the mend.  Yahoo!  Hopefully, will start walking again next week.  Physical therapy, patience & a lot of continued prayers should get me back to normal.  I miss so much being able to go to the gym.  Trying to get some stretching & upper body basic exercises in even now.  What have we learned from this experience???   Losing the pounds is important, but we must not neglect the body.  Get it in shape, keep it in shape.  Take nothing, expecially your health & your family, for granted.
Trying to keep the portions small & the food choices wise.  Thankful for DH help since he is now the chief cook around here.  Peace.

End of January 2011 Update

Jan 31, 2011

Well, here we are at the end of January.  Only 13 weeks until we go on our 3rd cruise- sure would like to lose 10 pounds by the 1st of May! That would put me down to 186 and that's my goal between now and then.  Just getting over a terrible bout with flu and can't wait to get back into the gym.  Ups & downs, fills & unfills and s-l-o-w progress.  Here's to a great and successful 2011!

Back on Track

Oct 20, 2010

Much has happened since I last posted.  Got down to 188, was extremely tight, has an unfill, put on about 15 pounds, but NOW, TODAY, I'm back on the Band Wagon.  Retired from teaching in June and LOVE it!  A trip to the Smokies in July, a cruise in August and another cruise scheduled for later this year.  I will NOT put back on any more weight.  I WILL start going in the right direction.  Blessed beyond measure, I've come too far to turn back now.

Walking in a Winter ONEderland

Dec 04, 2009

Finally, I've reached that long awaited goal- this morning I weighed in at 199.0 pounds.  Glory!!! After being so close for sooooooo long, I cannot believe how great this feels.  Just ate 1/2 egg & cheese omelette and I'm pretty full- that's on top of decaf coffee and chai latte.  Oh, the frustration of the last year, but oh, the joy and motivation I have now.  I so wanted to be in Onederland before Dec. 27, our 40th wedding anniversary, and here I am.  So thankful for friends and family support.  So thankful for Dr. Allen and staff.  So thankful to God for His many blessings in my life.  Thankful not only for what He's done but for Who He is.  Haven't been this light since 1985.  It's time- and there's more goals to reach, more weight to lose, more life ahead.

Closing in on Onederland

Jul 13, 2009

OK, here I am almost to the middle of July.  One thing I've learned in the last 15 months:  Goal setting is fine, but simply sticking with the Plan ( getting in the protein, water & exercise + eating small healthy portions) is the way to go for me.  The scale says 200.6 and that's after a week's vacation in Miami, home of Cuban bread and flan.  I'm keeping on keeping on and do fully expect to make it to Onederland before school starts- August 13.  Size 18 is getting too big and my wedding band & engagement ring are sliding off so, I now am wearing my mother's wedding ring as a ring guard (it just now fits on my ring finger).  I'm so blessed!!! The Journey continues...

Still In the Race

May 03, 2009

Well, my 1 year Bandiversary has come and gone.  I am so close to Onederland, I can see it just in sight.  Down almost 57 pounds, I am still slowly but surely approaching my first major goal of getting under 200 pounds.  If I keep going at my current pace, I should arrive at 199.8 by June 3, the end of the school year.  For anyone reading this, I just want to say that I have missed being on here much the last couple of months- just hit and miss.  With summer just around the corner, I'm hoping to be back in the swing of things, and online more.  Hope everyone is doing well.  Peace.

Eleven months later

Mar 21, 2009

OK.  I'm back.  No, I didn't go into hibernation for the winter, just caught up in the daily living of life, I haven't been here much for the last 6 weeks plus.  The scale finally began to move again in the last few days and I am now less than 4 pounds from Onederland.  MAYBE, if I click my heels three times, get back to the gym and stay away- far away- from the Girl Scout cookies, I will reach Onederland by my Bandiversary next month.   Only 9 more weeks of school, and summer will be here.  I'll be back on the boards more then.  Meanwhile, to all my OH friends, especially on the KY board, hope to see &/or talk to y'all soon.  Peace & Love and Happy Spring-time!!!

Almost 7 months later

Nov 20, 2008

Hard to believe that tomorrow marks the Seven Month mile marker on my weight loss journey with the Band.  This week before Thanksgiving, I've actually seen the scale going downward and am very excited and motivated to do more & eat less!  I have repented of my Pumpkin Spice lattes and now partake of Skinny Cinnamon Dolce lattes. My next step to recovery is making them at home and saving the money!   I am about two pounds from the half way mark to my goal and steadily, if slowly, moving toward Onderland.  Almost 50 pounds in seven months??!!! Yahoo!!!  Much to be thankful for, including my new OH friends I've made this year.  Here's to happy Holidays and reaching a promised land- Onederland!!!

Five and a half months later and turning 60

Oct 05, 2008

Turning 60?!!  It's true.  Monday, October 6, I will turn 60 years old.  Some days I definitely feel 60 but days like today, after a brisk walk, I feel much younger.  I so wanted to be below 210 by now, but will have to settle for 213-215 pounds a few more days.  Looking back on the last 5 1/2 months, I must say that being where I am now, is definitely a step in the right direction.  As I turn another year older, I believe I am truly wiser in some ways.  I am making healthier food choices, have more patience with myself and am exercising more.  How blessed I am to have many OH friends to help lighten the load and encourage me as I keep working with the Band.  Never surrender, never give up.  "Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things." (I Corinthians) Here's to another year of life and to a little less of me in the days ahead.

Four months and 40 pounds later

Aug 17, 2008

Almost 4 months after my surgery date and I have lost right at 40 pounds.  Just got through the 1st week of a new school year (only 71 more weeks to teach until I retire) and I have so much energy I can hardly believe it.  I am so thankful to God for modern medicine and technology that has developed weight loss surgery.  I appreciate Dr. Allen's expertise, what a sweetie, and his kindness.  My family is so supportive and colleagues at school are encouraging, too.  There are days that are still a little tricky, but for the most part, I've learned what works and what doesn't,  Since my 2nd fill on Aug. 7th, I've really been on a roll.  DID I SAY ROLL?! Yikes!  Pizza doesn't phase me, but put the rolls on the other side of the table, please. .                                                                                                At this rate, I should be down under 200 pounds by December- just in time for our son's wedding and my & my husband's 39th wedding anniversary.

I am so blessed!  I can't close this out without saying how much I enjoy and appreciate all the support and info that I receive here at OH.  Being a part of this network has made my load a lot lighter and my journey a lot brighter.  Peace.
