My journey began in Feb. 2006.  That is when I went to an information seminar on Lap-Band surgery.  I had my appointment with my surgeon in March and the paperwork trail started.  The end of May they had collected all of my paperwork for the insurance company and submitted it.  St. Vincent’s did a great job submitting what Medical Mutual wanted and I was approved for surgery in a week.  The only difficulty I had is that St. Vincent’s does the Lap-Band surgery only two days out of the month.  I was going to be out of town for the dates in June, so I had to wait until July to have surgery.

The day I started my liquid diet I weighed in at 219.  The morning of surgery I weighed in at 208.  Surgery went smoothly.  I had some soreness, but not anything that was dreadfully painful.  It was very hard to make it through all the stages of eating, especially pureed foods.  They looked so disgusting, however, they tasted pretty good.  So get out those blindfolds and eat away!!

Six weeks after surgery I went in for my first fill 2.2ccs for a total of 3.2ccs (1 cc’s was put in at surgery time).  I am not going to lie it hurt.  It wasn’t the needle that hurt; it was when they pushed around on the port site locating it.  I am sure that I was still sore from surgery, but I really did wanted to cry.  The muscle was still sore and them pushing on that area WOW!!!  Then six weeks later I went back for my second fill.  I was a little nervous, but this time it was smooth sailing.  The nurse practitioner did the fill and added another 1cc for a total now of 4.2ccs.  I still really was feeling no restriction at all.  Then because of an insurance mix-up on the doctor’s office part I didn’t get my next fill for 8 weeks.  I really was feeling the need for it.  Again the nurse practitioner did my fill adding another 1cc for a total of 5.2ccs.  I am probably ready for another fill and am going to call the doctor’s office later this week to make that appointment.  I have lost a total of 40 pounds, of that 29 pounds since surgery.

I have a very supportive husband and daughter.  They have meant the world to me during this journey.  I am looking forward to loosing more and more weight to become that healthy person for my family and myself.
