18 Month Update - Long Overdue
Sep 24, 2009
I am a little over 18 months out and living my life to the fullest! I have lost a total of 152.5 pounds and weigh half of what I did when I started. I have gone from a size 28-30 to a size 10. I feel fantastic.
We took a fabulous family vacation in August to the Bahamas and I kept up with the kids and rode water slides and climbed lots of stairs without getting winded and wasn't the largest person in a swimsuit by the pool. I even had to tighten the seatbelt on the airplane!
I am very healthy and happy.
9 Months
Dec 15, 2008
It's been 9 months since my surgery and I'm down an amazing 110 pounds. I didn't think I would reach the 100 pound mark until the end of my first year. This is awesome. It has slowed down incredibly. I only lost 4.5 pounds in the past month, but down is down. I'm having lots of trouble regulating my thyroid. We've been working on it since August. I'm hoping that once my levels are adjusted properly that the weight loss will pick up again. I'd love to be losing about 10 pounds a month at this point.
I took this great size chart off of a forum message and decided to post it here for inspiration.

My 4 Month Surgiversary
Jul 12, 2008
Well, today is my four month surgiversary. This has been an amazing journey so far. Here is the data: I have lost 65 pounds. I have lost 1 inch from my neck, 7.5 inches from my chest, 9.5 inches from my waist, 7 inches from my hips, 5.5 inches around both my thighs (together) and 2.5 inches from my upper arm.
I feel terrific, have energy and am so happy I finally did this. I live with my sewing machine in my dining room because I am constantly tucking in the waistband of my capris and shorts. I'm trying not to clothes shop until it's time for school in September. I did have to buy all new bras, gotta keep the girls up where they belong. Oh yeah, and I bought two new bathing suits because I swim alot and had a boob fall out of my bathing suit at the college pool. Oops!
I can't wait to see where this ride takes me next.
The Story I've Never Told
May 22, 2008
Okay, here goes. I've never told anyone this. I guess it's about time.
When I was probably around 8 years old we went to a very small amusement park. The old fashioned kind with the old rides like the cars that went around in circles. I remember getting on the ride with the cars and the scummy carny guy starting it and it wasn't turning correctly. He kind of pushed it with his foot and it still wouldn't work properly and he had all of us get off and ride the next ride saying something was wrong with it. As all the kids filed off to the next ride and he let us through the gate, he muttered to me "You Fat Retard." I remember feeling complete shame and knowing the ride didn't work because I was too big for it. I was so ashamed that I never even told my Mom. This is the first time I've ever repeated that story. I've also never forgotten as a teacher and a Mom that children never forget what we say to them.
Six Weeks out and what a Journey It Is!!
Apr 23, 2008
Well, it's been six weeks today from surgery. Things are going really well. I have been doing well on regular food and have been getting in my protein and liquids every day. (Some days it feels like that's the only thing I'm working on.) This is my fourth week back to work and I'm really tired but doing well. I did take last Friday off because I'm tired of being so tired by the end of Friday.
I have lost 35 pounds in the past six weeks which doesn't really register yet. I still feel like the scale is just malfunctioning and I will get on it next week and it will be right back to where I started. My husband and children are doing well and being extreemly supportive of me.
I can't wait to see where the next six weeks take me! I'm so glad I did this!
I've joined the loser's bench!

Clear liquids are going well and I move on to full liquids after tomorrow. By the time I go back to work in two weeks I will be on regular foods, just not the regular amount or the regular way! I'm doing pretty well getting in at least 48 ounces in this first stage as required by the doctor. But, that's basically all I'm worrying about now is following the diet and meeting the requirements. We'll see how it goes when I return to work in a couple of weeks.
Oh yeah, I've lost 10 pounds since Wednesday! WOO HOO!
I have a surgery date!
Feb 01, 2008
OMG - it's less than 6 weeks away. My heart is racing and my stomache has done flip flops for the past 30 minutes. It's a good thing that my husband is working until 8 tonight so that I can present this calmly because he needs me to be really okay with all of this. He's okay as long as I'm okay with it.

After blaming myself for my entire life, I think I can actually say that WLS might actually be the only answer. I'm really hoping for the resetting of my matabolism which my surgeon assures me is a very likely outcome of the surgery.
