3 weeks post op

Mar 13, 2014

Today I had my 3 week follow up with my surgeon and the dietitian.  It went well.  He was pleased with my WL so far (almost 36 lbs since my pre-op appointment).

It almost seems surreal.  It really was a very fast process.  But it seemed to drag on forever during.

My wife and I decided to pursue WLS (RNY) in July of 2013.  We had considered it for years, but never really went beyond the information session or talking to others.

But as we looked at where we were and how WW and nothing else was working long term, we decided to re-examine the WLS route.

Our PCP suggested the surgeon we went with and so we called and found out the info meeting was 8/10/13.  We both attended that session and got the paperwork to "apply" to be a candidate for surgery.  We filled out the paperwork and I personally took it into the office to submit it.

Then it was a month before we could get our appointment with the surgeon.

Due to previous issues earlier in the year, my wife had already done all the testing required for surgery, she just needed to get the letters from each specialist.

Due to this, we were able to get her scheduled for the Friday before Thanksgiving.

I had to do all the clearance testing during this time.  I was not able to have surgery prior to the end of the year just due to their full schedule.

So I waited until mid-February when my wife was on break and had mine done.

At 3 weeks out, I feel normal.  Well as long as I am not eating.  Once I eat something, if it is small and I chew it into oblivion, then it feels normal, but if I eat too fast, I of course feel it.  I also cannot drink too fast or I will feel it.  But just in regular stuff, I feel normal.  During most of my day, I wonder if the surgeon did anything to me.  Then I eat and sometimes I know I am now forever different.

I have a long road ahead, but my wife and I are in this together and together we will be successful.
